Katy Perry Talks Being a Fashion “Don’t” to Women’s Health

Kevin Mazur/WireImage

Other than her controversial lyrics, Katy Perry is perhaps best known for her out-there fashion choices, but the newcomer doesn’t mind being a regular on the worst dressed lists. “I like experimenting and I’m totally OK with ending up in the ‘worst dressed.’ It’s happened many, many times, but I’m proud of those outfits,” the singer tells Women’s Health. From wearing a carousel-inspired frock to a Barack Obama printed number, Katy never ceases to amaze us with her outrageous looks. “I don’t follow trends,” she says.”I’m just not into what everyone else is wearing. I have my own look, which I call ‘Lolita meets old Hollywood Glam.’” So, it’s no wonder when she names such stars as Dita Von Teese and Cyndi Lauper as her icons. “I’m a big fan of [actress and burlesque performer] Dita Von Teese, because she does it all herself. That is her job: to look fabulous going to the grocery store,” Katy explains. “Cyndi Lauper is another favorite. She was just so out of her mind in the ’80s. It takes someone who has no limitations in style to create stuff that epic.” We have a feeling that this Grammy-nominated singer isn’t only getting going with her fashion choices — and her career. To read more from Katy Perry, Elisha Cuthbert and Chelsea Handler, pick up the new issue of Women’s Health– on newsstands now. Tell us: What do you think of Katy Perry’s style?

Valentino: The Fashion Emperor Rules in a New Documentary

KCSPresse / Splash News

If you’re the boss, you get to bring your dog to the office. Make that dogs plural. Valentino Garavani, the Italian fashion designer who reigned for 45 years before his retirement in September 2007, never went anywhere without his six adorable pet pugs. They, along with celebrity fans such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, Elizabeth Hurley and Sarah Jessica Parker, all turn up in Valentino: the Last Emperor, a fascinating new documentary about the designer. Filmed during the final two years of Valentino’s career, Last Emperor shows him at work and at play, accompanied by Giancarlo Giammetti, his even-tempered business and life partner, in Paris, Rome, London, New York City, Gstaad and aboard their luxury yacht. The secret to his long success? “I know what women want,” Valentino says. “They want to be beautiful.” As amply demonstrated here, in his clothes, they were. The movie opens in New York City on March 18 and in L.A. on April 3 and then expands elsewhere. For more information, go to valentinomovie.com. –Leah Rozen, PEOPLE movie critic

Stars Get Glam in YSL at The Metropolitan Opera’s 125th Anniversary Gala

Arias weren’t the only thing on the minds of Hollywood’s biggest fashionistas as they turned out yesterday to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Metropolitan Opera, which was sponsored by Yves Saint Laurent. For stars like Mary-Kate Olsen, Claire Danes and Becki Newton, an evening at the opera was also an opportunity to pick fresh-off-the-runway creations from the legendary French design house, now helmed by Stefano Pilati. “I had the privilege of going over to YSL and trying on a bunch of different dresses,” Becki tells PEOPLE.com, “which is every girl’s dream — especially when preparing for the Opera. I saw green sparkles and I got excited.” And while her bird-cage heels by the design house might have looked treacherous, “these are incredibly comfortable.” Ginnifer Goodwin concurred about the comfort of her towering YSL shoes. “Actually I find that YSL’s high shoes are rather comfortable, because there is quite a bit of platform. But height can be important with proportion as with this dress,” she said. For Zoe Saldana, however, staying stylish isn’t without consequences. “Are the shoes tall? Yes, they are. They’re very tall — but I’m getting used to it,” she said, before adding, “It’s ruining my toes.” It all adds to the drama, which seems even more appropriate at the opera. –Reporting by Jeffrey Slonim

Rachel Bilson Pledges To Stay Out of the Sun This Summer — With Help from Jergens

Michael Williams/Startraks

Rachel Bilson may have spent a few years in the O.C., but she’s learned her lesson since days spent tanning at the beach as a teen. The star has teamed up with Jergens to promise to get her tan from a bottle this summer and help raise awareness for skin cancer research through the Glow in the Dark initiative. Rachel talked to PEOPLE.com about her involvement, explaining that “growing up in Southern California, getting tan was a big part of the culture. Now being aware of how bad [tanning] is for your skin, you can still get that look and that glow without harming your body.” Rachel’s favorites include the natural glow Foaming Daily Moisturizer and natural glow Healthy Complexion Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 20, which she loves because “you can put it on and you can wear it and be protected.” Click here to make your own pledge to stay out of the sun this summer — even better than just protecting your own skin health, Jergens will donate $1 to the Skin Cancer foundation for every pledge made.

Clive Owen Gets Stylish On Set With Armani

Andrew Schwartz/Universal Studios

He’s dashing in his own right, but actor Clive Owen is about to set even more hearts a-flutter with a little help from two of the world’s foremost tastemakers. Giorgio Armani and two-time Academy Award-winning costume designer Albert Wolsky have teamed up to give actor a dapper wardrobe for his latest picture Duplicity, a romantic spy flick which he stars in with Julia Roberts. And while cinematic styling collaborations are nothing new to Armani, who has contributed to everything from American Gigolo to The Dark Knight over his 34-year career, this venture was an exciting opportunity. “This film collaboration was an interesting experience for me,” Armani says. “My friend, the immensely talented and handsome Clive Owen, was the first person to bring Duplicity and writer/director Tony Gilroy to my attention while he was attending my men’s show in Milan. I said, ‘Yes,’ before I even knew I would have the honor of collaborating with legendary costume designer Albert Wolsky. Albert has that rarified gift for being able to make clothing a leading character in a film. Combine that with dressing Clive in a romantic caper—and that really becomes movie magic for a fashion designer.” And Clive returns the compliment, saying, “When Tony Gilroy said to me the brief for this movie is ‘You have to look great,’ the first thing I did was call Giorgio and ask him to do my clothes. And I have to say, I’ve never been better dressed in a movie. The clothes are electric. Armani and Wolsky are the masters.” Tell us: Do you plan on checking out Clive’s look in Duplicity when it hits theaters March 20th?
