EXCLUSIVE: First Look at Celine Dion’s “Chic” New Scent

Courtesy of Coty

Celine Dion is at it again, adding another scent to her growing fragrance empire. Campaign images for the singer’s sixth major fragrance, Chic, will appear in-stores only in April before hitting European magazines next fall, but PEOPLE.com has nabbed an exclusive first look. The ads, which feature the jet-setting star boarding a plane, are meant to reflect a fresh take on fragrance and are inspired by the diva’s sense of style and dynamic personality. “Celine Dion Chic is for the woman who seeks affordable luxury, who wants to project a sense of style with confidence and glamour,” explains Steve Mormoris, Coty’s Senior Vice President of Global Marketing. But what does the diva herself think? “For me, this fragrance truly embraces the glamour of fashion with a sophisticated edge,” says Celine in a statement. “I hope all women feel as elegant and feminine as I do when wearing this fragrance.” Fans will have to wait to sample the scent until it hits stores in April — just as the singer’s Taking Chances world tour wraps up. Tell us: What do you think of Celine’s Chic new ad? Will you try out her scent?

Mary-Kate Olsen Debuts Elizabeth and James Shoes — On Her Feet!

Andrew H. Walker/Getty

Mary-Kate Olsen might have taken a front row seat at Proenza Schouler to check out the designing duo’s fall ’09 line, but the star was also showing off something new of her and sister Ashley‘s own design: Elizabeth and James shoes! The pint-size designer coordinated her turquoise dress and white Elizabeth and James blazer with a pair of black suede wedge heels from the new Elizabeth and James shoe line due out this spring. Mary-Kate’s pair are actually a prototype directly from the factory and is the line’s take on an ankle bootie, but with a sexy cut-out to show more skin. Wonder what fellow front row-er Nicole Richie thought of Mary-Kate’s design? Tell us: What do you think of Mary-Kate’s heels?

Jennifer Lopez Dishes on Oscar Glamour

Donato Sardella/WireImage

Jennifer Lopez may not have made it to N.Y.C. Fashion Week but that didn’t stop her from celebrating fashion this week! The diva turned up at the Beverly Hills launch of famed stylist Andrea Lieberman’s A.L.C. line for Barneys New York. With the Oscars just days away, talk inevitably turned to this year’s Academy Awards red carpet. For her part, Lieberman is ambivalent about the impact the economy will have on the Oscar’s glamour. “It’s hard to predict what people will wear,” the tastemaker tells WWD, “but I think the mood right now is a little more effortless. I think people just don’t want to look like they’re trying too hard.” Lopez, however, was adamant that she thinks the Oscars should continue to shine. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with playing dress up right now,” she tells WWD. “Who wouldn’t want to wear borrowed dresses and borrowed jewelry?” But she is aware of the dilemma many stars find themselves in. “I think you can get criticized if you’re wearing borrowed dresses now because it’s borrowed, and I think you can get criticized for if it’s not because you bought it during the current economy,” she says. “So I say, do what makes you happy and wear what you want, because the only thing that really matters,” she jokes, “is if your mother calls you up the next days and says, ‘What were you wearing?’”

Posh’s Dress Collection Gets “‘Absolutely Outstanding” Reviews

Dan lecca

Victoria Beckham may have started her eponymous dress collection with 12 styles in September 2008, but she’s returned this Fashion Week with a expanded collection of gowns, jackets and embellished minis that has debuted to rave reviews. Style.com says, “These dresses look so well-made, so of-the-moment yet also timeless…that they do the talking for [Beckham]”. The International Herald Tribune found the designer as a stand-out among her celeb-designer peers: “Beckham has succeeded in creating a collection in her own image with playful gestures and with a sense that, unlike most celebrity lines, she would be proud and pleased to wear every piece herself.” And WWD seems to think Victoria might be evolving into a fashion heavy hitter. “Though too early to tell — a mere two collections into her second career — judging from the controlled lineup she showed on Sunday, it seems that [Beckham] may indeed be no lightweight. (Figuratively, that is. Formerly Posh is still a slip of a girl.)” PEOPLE caught up with the designer at Armani/5th Avenue store opening last night and she was still reeling from her her great reviews. “It’s been wonderful,” she gushed. “The reviews have been absolutely outstanding. The retail response has been wonderful. The sales grew, so far, over the previous collection. It has been phenomenal. The whole thing is mind-blowing to be honest. I love what I do.” We can’t wait to see Victoria wearing items from the new collection! Check out all the new looks at instyle.com. Tell us: What do you think of Victoria’s new dresses?

Giorgio Armani’s Star-Studded Store Opening: Posh, Leo, Alicia and More!

Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage

Fifth Avenue just got a little bit more Posh. Giorgio Armani — with the help of some very famous friends– opened his new store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue last night. Victoria Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, Ricky Martin, Chace Crawford, Solange Knowles, Zoe Saldana, Molly Sims, January Jones and more braved the cold to take in Armani’s new four-level, 40,000 square-foot concept store offering every Armani brand. “It’s amazing,” Beckham gushed. “I just got here, but it looks really great.” But don’t expect to see Posh at too many more Fashion Week events. “I have to leave here tomorrow and go home.” She explains, “It’s [Cruz's] birthday. He said, ‘It’s my birthday after Fashion Week’. I’m training him well.” DiCaprio slipped in towards the end of the cocktail party, but right on time for the private dinner Armani hosted for a handful of friends at the new Armani/Ristorante, the first of its kind in the United States. The night, however, was not just about fashion — the charity designer announced his donation of $1 million to the Fund for Public Schools to benefit N.Y.C. school children, which Caroline Kennedy was on hand to accept. Now that’s fashion that cares. Check out more Fashion Week coverage by clicking here.–Reporting by Kelly Carter
