Carrie Bradshaw may be the ultimate symbol of the fashionista who puts their wardrobe over their nest egg — who can forget Carrie’s realization that the down payment for her apartment had gone to her shoe collection instead? So how would the iconic Sex and the City character handle today’s economic woes? Sarah Jessica Parker opines to Harper’s Bazaar, “She would probably end up in a hospital. Perhaps she would go back to her ’80s stuff and start bringing it out again.” As for the March cover girl, her own take on the recession is a bit less dramatic. “I know so many people who have lost jobs, are losing jobs, husbands who have lost jobs. I can’t imagine going shopping.” But that said, Parker does allow that “I don’t have the Carrie Bradshaw passion and devotion to it, but I would much prefer that life would allow for a beautiful shoe all day long.” As for Bradshaw’s legendary wardrobe, the actress, who maintains a very un-Carrie-like home (“Friends are readily disappointed by the size of my closet.”), she enthuses, “I got to wear such incredible things, and you make such mistakes and there’s such hits and great triumphs and there’s incredible wrong, wrong, wrong…But it’s so much fun.” Read the full interview with Sarah Jessica at Tell us: How are you weathering the recession? Are you taking it like Carrie might or like Sarah Jessica herself?

I don’t know if this image of SJP is photoshop or a bad session of botox or maybe updated veneers, but she looks so much better natural. I have always thought SJP as very humble in her interviews. She never makes people feel as if she is better than them because he she has a few extra zero is her bank account.

wow ok calm down a little bit that now what the column says, it reads “I can’t imagine going shopping” and she’s trying to relate to us as more than just a celeb, so read more carfully next time and it’s ok u can retract ur claws now :)

“Lori NYC February 5th, 2009

This “I can’t imagine not going shopping” rivals the same stupid thing she said about having “several family members on welfare that need help”. No wonder her husband hates her.”

I also think what she meant was not just “I can’t imagine going shopping” as in clothing and trivialities, but how hard it is to provide for a family. SJP grew up with nothing, her family was on food stamps, she has worked hard for everything that she has earned and remains refreshing, down to earth, a terrific mother and a warm human being. About 50% of marraiges have marraige problems, and of the 50% who stay together about 50% of those are unhappy. Relationships have trouble, people are only human. Its pretty pathetic when we have gotten to a point where SJP garners anyone’s wrath for havign to endure a relationship issue in the public eye.

Lori, not to be rude, but she her quote said “I can’t imagine going shopping” not “I can’t imagine not going shopping.” She’s agreeing that with these tough times, and people losing jobs all around her, she’s not running store to store and shopping up a storm, like Carrie would.
I think she’s tough sometimes in interviews, but for the most part, she’s had a blessed life after living on welfare as a child and knows how lucky she is. The partner with the issue is her husband who’s constantly battling with his wife’s success and his lack of it…

Hey LORI, SJP was quoted in the article as saying, “I can’t imagine going shopping.” CAN’T IMAGING G O I N G SHOPPING! Also, she NEVER said she had family members losing jobs! She knows people losing jobs, we all do! READ MUCH Lori?

A lot of what she says doesn’t make sense to me – especially the part of about not shopping! People need something to release tension – and that doesn’t mean you have to buy the whole store!

actually, lori from NYC…she said “i cant imagine GOING shopping.” meaning that she feels bad about going out and blowing money with the recession!
