Gwyneth Paltrow Shares Her Post-Holiday Diet!

Lionel Cironneau/AP

After giving us her personal holiday recipes, Gwyneth Paltrow shares her post-holiday diet secret in her latest GOOP newsletter. Gwyneth admits, “I need to lose a few pounds of holiday excess. Anyone else? I like to do fasts and detoxes a couple of times during the year, the most hardcore one being the Master Cleanse I did last spring. It was not what you would characterize as pretty. Or easy.” Working with her doctor, a detox diet specialist, Gwyneth has created a seven-day elimantion diet that helps detox the body. “As I do not wish to subsist on lemon water in the middle of winter, I asked my doctor, a detox diet specialist, for the guidelines he uses to achieve a good detox that is not as hallucinogenic (in a bad way) as the Master Cleanse,” says Gwyneth. “What it came down to was this: you can detox easily and effectively while you continue to eat as long as you are cutting out the foods and other substances that interfere with the detoxification process.” While cutting out dairy, grains with gluten, meat, shellfish, anything processed (including all soy products), fatty nuts, nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant), condiments, sugar and obviously no alcohol, caffeine or soda, Gwyneth’s diet consist of salads, fruit smoothies, chicken, soups and lots of water. A cleanse is great if you become addicted to fast food, sugary, or sweet foods. A two week cleanse will reset your palate. I went on one for 2 days after the holidays because I ate so much my back hurt and I was all clogged up. Beyond this, however, they really aren’t that healthy or useful.

Better idea: don’t overeat in the first place! Seven course meals confuse and disgust me.

All of you with the negative comments and personal attacks on Gweneth need to get a life.

She shares what works for her, and she has not attested to the fact that her health habits are suitable for everyone. Everyone has the right to share their opinion and if you do not value hers then saying you disagree will suffice.

Lose the negativity and stop being haters.

Happy New Year :)

I’m actually on this detox diet (3rd day) and while the preparation of the food and the grocery shopping for it were sort of exhausting (mainly b/c , I’d never bought a lot of the foods, i.e., “mirin” or “bonito flakes”) I am really loving it. Despite the fact that it is relatively low in calories, you get your protein from the shakes and 2 servings each of fish and chicken. I’ve also been feeling better at all of my workouts too. I recommend it. And after showing it to my trainer, she thinks, that for 7 days, its a great idea, as well.

I get the whole diet thing but how about a little more information on how much exercise GP puts in during a day? A lot more than the rest of us I am sure and good for her. I had to find a way to keep moving through the day and to do that I use a treadmill desk.

My favorite recipes for detox diets.

Very nice.
