Stars Turn Out to Celebrate With Alberta Ferretti

John Shearer/Getty

Forget the recession! On Wednesday night, Hollywood fashionistas welcomed Italian designer Alberta Ferretti with open arms. Ferretti celebrated the launch of her 4,500 square foot U.S. flagship store on Melrose Ave., showcasing the Alberta Ferretti Collection, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, Alberta Ferretti Girl, accessories and footwear. “This is a great location and a big deal,” said Elisha Cuthbert. Attracting the likes of Lucy Liu, Marisa Tomei and Nicole Richie, Ferretti kept it simple and sweet — just like her frocks. “It’s a very good evening for me.” Inside the store, Richie and Joel Madden sipped on Martin & Rossi champagne with friends Nicky Hilton and David Katzenberg inside the innovative space. “People are depressed – they drink and they shop, which is what I’m going to do right now!” said Mad Men‘s January Jones, who summed up her take on the current state of economy. “I got a beautiful purple silk coat that’s reversible that has light purple fur on the inside. Its kind of pimpy — I’ll pimp it out occasionally,” said Jones, who admitted to receiving a very kind discount from Ferretti. “How thrifty am I?” – Kimberly Lansing

Hollywood is gearing up to mix it up for the holidays in a fun new ad campaign for Gap. Stars like Mila Kunis — whose “Hang Up Your Own Stockings” ad debuts exclusively above — Jennifer Hudson, Ashanti, Mary-Louise Parker, Jason Bateman and more stars will appear wearing a mix of the brand’s latest collection of knitwear and other fashion must-haves. But our favorite part of the campaign has to be Gap’s Merry Mix It site, which launches today and features a series of webisodes with unexpected pairings of actors, musicians and comedians performing remixed holiday carols. The unique site allows you to watch them perform or get in on the action by remixing and downloading your own version of “Jingle Bells,” recorded by Flo Rida and Trey Songs, using clips from the entire Gap Holiday cast — which includes everyone from Selma Blair to Jason Biggs to the Dixie Chicks and members of SNL. Designers Dream Big for the Obamas’ Inauguration Formal Wear

Courtesy Marc Bouwer

Signing on to dress the first lady for the Inauguration Ball is always a big deal, but this year, “it’s every designer’s dream to dress Michelle Obama,” says New York designer Marc Bouwer. PEOPLE asked Bouwer and designers Reem Acra and Isabel Toledo to come up with sketches of how they’d dress the First-Family-elect, given the honor. Bouwer, whose design appears above, took special inspiration from Michelle, who “has a much more modern approach to dressing,” he says. “She’s probably the most body-conscious dresser out of any First Lady we’ve had, and her clothes have a more modern silhouette.” Plus, as the United States’ first African-American first lady, “She’s the first of her kind,” adds Bouwer. “The designer who gets this will snag a major part of history. This will be remembered now and for forever.” Click through to check out Inauguration Ball sketches by red carpet favorites Isabel Toledo and Reem Acra. Then tell us: Which designer do you think has the winning look? –Charlotte Triggs
