Alexander McQueen Dishes About His Upcoming Line With Target

Danny Moloshok/AP

He’s already have won over stars like Eve and Joy Bryant with his renegade fashions, and — as we reported two weeks ago — Alexander McQueen is ready to make the rest of America into fans with a new line for Target. In an interview with WWD, the designer dishes about his motivations behind the budget-friendly collection, McQ Alexander McQueen for Target, which will top out in price at $130 — a far cry from the thousands-high price tags of his usual clothing. His favorite challenge in doing a line with the retailer was in winning over an untapped audience. “Apart from the East and West Coasts, my company doesn’t have any visibility in the U.S.,” he says. “I always liked the idea of people in the Midwest wear my clothes. The idea of this upstart from London going to where people haven’t heard of me, I think that was interesting to me.” And, he adds, “I think it’s quite adventurous of Target.” Tell us: Will you be lining up at select Target stores — or on Target.com — to grab McQueen’s goods when they launch in March?

I personally think that it is kind of strange that such a high-end designer would form a line with Target. Even though the prices will be a lot lower, there will not be as much time and effort put into designing each article of clothing. (the quality will definately be lacking!) I will not buy an item from this new line.

I can’t wait to see his line at Target! I just hope since he is used to working with size zeroes, that he remebers Midwestern woman tend to have curves!

Bre, it’s likely this clothing line will run small. The previous GO International collections usually ran small (I’m a size XS, but sometimes had to size up to a S). This is mostly because using less fabric helps to keep costs down.

I can’t wait to see the new line in March! McQueen is amazing and now every woman can afford to look good in somewhat designer duds! :D

I will buy some stuff I’m sure. I like McQueen. That’s probably the best designer that has done the Go line yet! pretty cool

I think this is silly. People go to Target for LOW prices. They keep hiring high end designers and it is difficult to find low deals at Target now. Why would Alexander McQueen go there? I think these high end designers are losing money and they are using Target to get business. They should stop.
