Beyonce’s Bold Fashion Choice: “She Looked Fantastic”

Beyonce Knowles is known for her glamorous wardrobe choice, tending to glittering gowns, curve-hugging minis and elegant creations from Armani for her many red carpet events. Which is why we did a double take when the singer turned up at the MTV Europe Awards in not one, but two dresses from notoriously edgy British designer Gareth Pugh. Beyonce’s stylist Ty Hunter tells PEOPLE, “Gareth Pugh’s work is explosive and she had to wear it. She thinks he is an amazing talent.” The young Brit is a master of dark, almost-goth looks with incredible architectural details. Beyonce’s performance dress, which is made of elastic bands and rows and rows of YKK zippers, first appeared on the designer’s Fall 2008 runway with matching leggings that Knowles wisely skipped. Pugh himself tells PEOPLE, “I’m delighted she wore my dresses, she looked fantastic.” We agree, and we love that Beyonce is supporting up-and-coming young designers while trying out cool, new looks. She took a big risk and it paid off. She looks incredible. The dress is very edgy, but she still looks pretty and it fits her body perfectly.

A hideous cross between the terminator and star trek. I also see people are noting that it looks like she is trying to rip the goth thing from Rihanna. 30 is a little too old for this kind of look, methinks. No thank you, ma’am!!

This dress does not suit her at all.
She doesn’t have enough edge to pull it off.
Agyness Deyn would have been a way better choice.
Beyonce takes herself too serious and to see her in this is very peculiar.

If this is the newest style of footwear, I’ll stick my own style, which is very fashionable and current. The only attractive style of shoe in your article was Eva Langoria’s and the striped ones worn by Paris Hilton. That “gladiator” style may well be the ugliest that’s ever been invented and it does nothing to flatter a woman. As for “anti-gravity” for Posh, well there are no words, but if she wears them very long, the word will be “varicose veins”! Bring back the classics!
