Elizabeth Hurley’s “Safety Pin” Dress Voted The Greatest of All Time

PHOTOG/IPOL/GLOBE

Elizabeth Hurley’s famous safety pin dress was yesterday hailed as the greatest red carpet gown of all time, according to research by leading UK department store Debenhams. The black Versace frock was worn by Liz, then 29, as she accompanied ex-boyfriend Hugh Grant to the 1994 premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral. A spokeswomen for Debenhams, which carried out the poll, said: ”Liz Hurley’s daring safety pin dress is one of the most famous black dresses worn on the red carpet, which made her a household name overnight. Our research shows how iconic the dresses worn on the red carpet have become with many of the stars making headlines from their outfits.” Audrey Hepburn’s white flower patterned Givenchy dress, which she wore to the 1954 Oscars, was in second place, while third in the poll of 3,000 women was Julia Roberts‘ black and white vintage Valentino dress, which she donned to collect her Best Actress award at the 2001 Oscars. Catherine Zeta-Jones is at number four with the red Versace gown she wore to the 1999 Oscars, while Jennifer Lopez’s daring dress for the 2000 Grammys, by the same designer, was at five. I am so tired of seeing actresses with plunging necklines and SAGGY BOOBS. They either need to get a boob lift or wear something else. Why do they think that is attractive? It is almost as annoying as pregnant women letting their bellies hang out of their clothes. Obviously they do not care what people think.

As far as dresses go….I am an old hippie, so the crazier the better for me. My favorite is the outrageous dress (Bob Mackie, I believe) Cher wore one year. It was black, sheer, VERY revealing, long and sparkly, and she wore some wild feather thing on her head. It was during the time when Sonny and Cher was on tv, Bob Mackie was her designer, and she wore some pretty outrageous clothes. LOVE IT!
