The New Kids on the Block are doing their part to fight for a cure during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And it’s an issue that hits close to home for the band. After singer Danny Wood’s mother Elizabeth “Betty” Wood passed away after a battle with the disease, Danny and the other New Kids knew they wanted to do something to honor her memory and also benefit their fans. “A lot of the women coming to the shows need to be aware of early detection. They’re in that age from 25-35 where they need to get their first exams,” Danny tells PEOPLE. “That was the problem for my mother. By the time she found out, it was too late — and I don’t want that to happen to anyone else when it could be prevented.” To help support the cause and keep the memory of Elizabeth Wood alive, the band is selling limited-edition NKOTB tanks featuring the Breast Cancer pink ribbon, $35, with all proceeds supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Danny, who chose the charity says, “They’re the best foundation I’ve worked with. I’ve done their races in the past and I know it’s something my mom would have wanted.” Click here to purchase one of the tanks and help in the fight for a cure. –reporting by Michelle Tan

I really love NKOTB and that’s a cute tank and a great foundation, but why don’t celebs ever support something that hasn’t happened to a member of their family?

Hey Guys,

I love the TANK TOP. It’s so Pretty. It’s totally a girl’s color. My Aunt passed away from Breast Cancer at the age of 37. So I will always LOVE and Support the New Kids On The Block (NKOTB) no matter what because I’ve been a HUGE FAN since 1988. I was only 10 years old back than.

NKOTB ROCKS ON FOREVER AND ALWAYS !!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE YOU GUYS!

MY #1 GUYS SINCE 1988

Thank you! Doesn’t matter that one of these men had to lose a loved one to this disease, what matters is they ARE supporting the cause. My mom went to great lengths to help me meet these guys way back in early 90’s and even she thought they were very sweet, yet she passed away from Breast Cancer in ’95. I will be rockin my pink ribbon tank at the Sacramento Concert on Oct 9. Thanks again guys, means a lot to me having lost my mom when she was only 42!
