With an already successful casual clothing line of flirty dresses, soft camis and playful skirts, Lauren Conrad is getting ready enter the world of eveningwear. The Hills resident designer is set to create a one of a kind red carpet gown for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards trophy girls, marking it the first time in Emmy history that a celebrity designer was asked to create a gown for the women who will hand out the Emmy statuettes. “I am so excited that the Academy has asked me to design a dress for this year’s Emmy Awards,” says Lauren. “I will be doing a red carpet look that still reflects the simple classic design of the Lauren Conrad Collection but with a black tie twist.” The Emmy dress is being made especially for the awards and, sadly for the rest of us, will not be part of her Lauren Conrad Collection. Tell us: Are you excited to see Lauren’s design? Do you think she is a good choice for this role?

you make a good point anonymous..people get mad that she has her own clothing line and think she got it because she is a celebrity but like you said she has always wanted to be a fashion desinger..i mean it obvioulsy helped her being in the spotlight but she still should be considered a fashion designer..until heidi who all of a sudden decided to design things..after lauren..shocker

Can not belive. World is full of TALANTED designers. what she has in common with closing DESIGN at all. Loren, go back to you endless intrigues and leave Emmys alone.

If you watch the first season of The Hills, Laurn wanted to be in Fashion Merchasiding NOT design. Now everyone says she always wanted to be a designer because she has a line of clothing out.

WOW! I feel so bad for real, talented and struggling designers. Se didn’t earned this opportunity. Shame on the Emmys for showing so much disrespect to real designers. I’m still in shock. She is a reality star, give her jobs accordingly. Hollywood got it wrong again!!!

Not in the least. If her goal was to be a designer, why did she end-up on a lame “reality” show?

Why Lauren? She’s not a celebrity designer either, reality show star, I love her but I don’t think she’s the right designer for this. The Emmy’s are all about elegance, hire someone like Giorgio Armani, Karl Lagerfeld or someone in higher fashion then just sun dresses and big sunglasses. Bad choice!

her taste in design is plain n simple, something like a child would do. very tasteless.

If they wanted someone without a lot of experience, why didn’t they pick someone from project runway. Now those designers have talent!!!

I’m really interested to see what Lauren comes up with- all of the dresses in her current line are really cute and chic. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for such a formal occasion.

“be still my heart” hahahaha!!

People, she is studying Product Development, NOT fashion design — I wonder is she even knows how to design? She probably pays someone to create her sketches and sew her patterns. And this is for the Emmys, not the Oscars or Grammys. It’s an honor, for sure, but the chick clearly is afraid to take risks. Her clothes (what she “designs” and what she wears) are all VERY BASIC. Basic colors, sillhoutes, and patterns. Can you imagine her churning out something Betsey Johnson, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, de la Renta, or even Christian Siriano could make???? Yeah, NO . . .
