Kitson Drops Lauren Conrad’s Clothing Line

Clark Samuels/startraks

Lauren Conrad may be expanding her eponymous design line — recently previewing Holiday, Fall/Winter and Resort collections as well as discussing a possible shoe line — but not everyone is buying it. Kitson owner Fraser Ross has dropped Conrad’s line from his well-known Robertston Boulevard boutique, citing flagging sales coupled with a lack of support on Conrad’s side. Ross tells PEOPLE, “Celebrity clothing lines are a tough sell as it is, and you have to promote your line just as you would an album or a TV show.” And as Ross points out, it’s not that Kitson is inaccesible for Conrad. “Lauren has been on Robertson three times since her clothing line launched but she couldn’t pop by to say hello to the sales staff that sell her line to her fans.” Ross’s advice to Conrad on how to succeed in fashion reasonates to all of her fellow celeb designers. He explains, “You have got to make your clients and customers happy because you are competing against a lot of talented designers in the industry.” Tell us: Have you bought L.C.’s clothing line?

Jamie

I actually haven’t considered buying any of the items because there is no umph as they say to her line. Its just the basics summer dresses, shirts or whatever else. Probably over priced for the type of fabric that they are making the clothes with. And it doesnt help that she really doesn’t promote her clothing line herself. Everytime I see her in a magazine she is wearing somebody elses clothing line. One piece of advise I would give to her is be true to yourself first. Just because you semi-made a name for yourself doesnt mean your name alone will sale clothes. Maybe to the pre-teens or some teenagers but to the rest of the hardworking world we have to see that its a passion of yours and not just another avenue to make money. And by all means if your going to not be as active in promoting your own line at least give the sales people more praises than ever before, because they are the real money makers, not your name……Much success……J

AnnieJ

Absolutely not. She’s not a real designer (nor is she a real celebrity).

India

Absolutely not!!!!!!!! They are too expensive # 1. And # 2, you can find similar items for way cheaper!!! Just because she was given a reality show on tv doesnt mean she needs to charge $300 for a plain maxi dress!

Tiffany

Her clothes are so unoriginal and boring. All of her styles you can get at Forever 21 for 10x cheaper! She is one of the blah-est persons on tv and is only popular because all of the unintelligent teenagers can understand her horrendous dialogue with her equally unintelligent friends. Just take the time to write down what she and her three friends say during an episode of the hills, and you’ll notice it’s 2nd grade dialougue content. Seriously, how embarrassing for their parents.

Marjolein

Pff…ofcourse not. I agree with AnnieJ.

Marjolein

Ha ha ha.. and with Tiffany!

Marie

I have considered it, the pieces are simple and unpretentious. I have seen much worse from “so called2 profesional designers.
I think Mr. Fraser Ross is just looking for some free publicity by trashing LC. Like it or not she has gained some popularity…

Tina

Honestly, i have considered to buy a few of her things and i wasnt sure.. but now that this has happened i want to help out lauren conrad. honestly she is one of the hardest working celebrities we know. everyone thinks her life is so easy but i would like to see any one here create a fashion line, run a fashion show, be the star of a tv show, deal with her regular drama, and work at peoples revolution. HONESTLY, GIVE IT A TRY !!

jenny

I love it, love it! Fraser Ross you are the man of the hour! Way to let these reality stars know, just because your fake on your show, it doesnt mean you cant be real out in the real world! There are people busting their butt out here to make it, and kudos to you Mr. Fraser Ross… you have set the bar pretty dam high!

Shari

I’m a big LC fan but I haven’t bought any of her stuff because they are boring and overpriced to me. Simple jersey stuff in simple silhouettes, no prints or interesting fabrics really. She needs several more years experience. If she wasn’t on a reality show, she’d be like any other fashion school student struggling to get hired as even an intern (like she did at Teen Vogue) in the biz.

Her fame has made her rush to get this line out IMO before she was ready, in maturity (as it takes a lot to run your own fashion empire) and skill.

But I wish her well and might buy some of her stuff in a few years once its a little more polished.

Kristin

A lot of the dresses look like bikini cover-ups, so there is no way I’d pay the asking price. That being said, if she were to market her line to H&M or Target, I believe it would open the availability to her target demographic.

Jane

I really like her clothing line but have not bought any of it, as it is not accessible to me. It is cute but not practical, and I can see where Kitson and Fraser Ross are coming from.

Lori-Ann

I love Laren’s clothing line, she has some really cute things. They are not overly expensive but to the average money making female they are. But I love Lauren and the work she does, she is a very hard worker and knows what she wants out of life. But she does need to make time for those who are trying to sell her line of clothing.

Jackie

I never had an interest in buying her clothes. They are too plain and over-priced. Who does she think she is? a Celebrity?

Laura

I don’t blame them. All her clothes look like t-shirts, some longer, some wider, but cotton rags nonetheless!

lacy

YSL, Chanel, or Ralph Lauren she’s not, I wouldn’t even buy her clothes if they were on clearance at Wal-Mart.

Ali

I actually bought the “audrina” dress, and it is so nice and really comfortable. All you people complaining are just cheap haters!
Ross just want to gain more publicity, just like he did with Victoria Beckham’s line. He seems like a**hole! Now I would not want to shop at Kitson, just because of him and his nasty attitude!

Sheri

Not. Her clothing line is nice but who can afford it. Also all her clothes are made for small sizes.

Michelle

So if you’re a designer and have your clothes in Kitson you have to schmooze them? Please. They are a store. That sells clothes. Big freaking deal.

I like Lauren’s style, and her line is cute. I wouldn’t call it high style, but most of what Kitson sells isn’t high style anyway.

I have also seen Lauren wearing her clothing line to events. She does not NOT wear her clothes.

Melissa

I love Lauren and her clothes are whats in style these days. For those of you who do not know style you wouldnt like them. Lauren is awesome and I know she will do great in this business. She has so much going on in her life that she probably doesnt have all the time in the world to stop by kitson, but I agree she could stop by every great once in a while. I still love her and she is way prettier than any other celebrity. At least she doesnt need plastic surgery to look pretty.

Jill

I think she’s a snotty little rich girl.
it’s time to sizzle out and fade away before the debutante ball, barbie.

Nicky

It’s too expensive for the average person. I think it would’ve sold a lot better if it was 1/2 the price.

cameron

NO, I would not buy her line. I have seen it. The colors are boring and plain. The lines are awkward. They dont fall right and not flattering on any body type. And while I would never buy cheap clothing (buy cheap–look cheap, there is a noticable difference in low priced clothing and higher priced-ie fabric and stitching) her clothing does not warrent her pricing–not in regards to fabric and stitiching but with originality. Take foley–there stuff is amazing and i own a TON of their clothing because its original. She is simply a young designer that still needs to learn a lot and is about 15 years too young for her to have her own line—she may want to take a cue from mary-kate and ashley’s line elizabeth and james!! and as for kitson–he said the SAME thing about victoria beckham–

Sarah

Tina,

Lauren Conrad, is that you in disguise…?! Quit posting comments on internet bulletin boards and get out there and promote your clothing line!!

Emily

No way! The items she is holding up in the picture look like they could be purchased at Forever 21 or Target. There is nothing unique about them.

Angelique

Have not bought any….would not buy any….will not buy any. I agree with what those before me have said. Who is she really? Nobody. Whats unique about her clothesline? Nothing? End of story.

Eleni

Overpriced jersey knit? Nah. I’ll get my stretchy rocks off somewhere else for half the price.

B

I have bought something for her line…simple is better sometimes…but she could come out with more and things that are different too…but she does have some learning to still do as she is still learning what to do in th business too…But then again alot of other started out simple better they got to the point they are at now…she just needs to keep on growing

Josie

Frankly Tina do you really think she does all of this on her own ???
Does type of girls are just looking for attention and anywhere or anything they can put their name on to gain more points in the popularity world they will do it….. !!!!
I can believe you think she does this on her own!

[...] lines, especially of ‘trendy’ starlets’ designs. Our skeptisizm was proved by today’s news: well-known Robertston Boulevard boutique Kitson drops Lauren Conrad’s clothing line. The reason [...]

Jennifer Thomas

Someone wrote that her clothes are too expensive. That is a stupid thing to write. She is not trying to sell her clothes at Wal-Mart or Target. She is trying to be a top designer.

Chelsea

Of course not. Its plain and too expensive. We all don’t live in the bubble that Lauren lives in. And in addition to that, I don’t watch the Hills or Laguna Beach…I watch Baldwin Hills. Its much better.

Payton

Lauren Conrad may be a “fake” celebrity but she is a doesn’t act like one. She acts like a normal 20 year old would, she parties and meets boys but who cares, i bet you all did that when you were her age, but the only difference is she is in the public eye. And of course her line is expensive, its was in KITSON!!!!!! What do you think, it’s in steve and barry’s? Most of you seriously need to get a clue.

Emily

I think Kitson is a little too picky about what clothing lines they put out and what clothing lines they drop.

Sassy

HELL no. I work in fashion in NYC and i’ve been doing this for 10 years now and I can tell you , those ugly tops / dresses she designs COST about $6 to make, and she retails that sh*t at $300 ?!?! talk about money-hungry. And I have never watched the Hills, I am not interested in a bunch of fake people who are actually very insecure and have to put on an act to like themselves . Pathetic. Get a REAL life, Lauren Conrad. EVERYONE i know and even some i barely know , can’t stand to see her face on any magazines.

Kai

I applaud Fraser Ross for keeping these “celebrities” in their place. It’s not enough to just put your name on a dress and expect it to sell itsself. He has proven that if you’re not willing to do the work and pay the proper respects to both the people who BUY and the people who SELL your stuff, then he will drop your ass, no questions asked. I think it’s great that he’s not as completely fazed by celebrity status as many other people in his position are.

quack

Who’s Lauren Conrad and why would i buy her clothes?

Diana

Who the heck is Lauren Conrad!?!?! What films has she been in? And no, I haven’t bought any of her things, since I’ve never heard of her, nor ever seen her line anywhere.

Christy

I checked out her line, because I admire her style. I like the clothing, but think it is way overpriced.

observation

Boring and over-priced…can get a lot nicer for a lot less elsewhere.

Val

If she wanted to be respected as a clothing designer, she should have displayed that on her tv show. All she does anymore is go out and flirt with boys and surround herself with drama. She has barely spoken about a love for fashion since “The Hills” began 3 years ago. Her line is super expensive, and for what reason? The clothing is not that inventive. I’m so glad to hear this line was dropped…it was doomed from the start.

Amber

I’d love to buy her line. I actually like some of the pieces, but there is NO WAY in hell that I’m paying those prices. My advice to Lauren is to make your clothes affordable!! Not everyone pays a hundred bucks for a shirt.

Overpriced

LC your clothes are way too overpriced and unoriginal. Please consider doing something like Heidi, good stuff, good prices.

medavinci

Listen, first Lauren Conrad is not an actress let alone designer! Please! Work hard? Right! She doesn’t know what it is to work “hard” – C’mon – like it’s difficult going to work everyday like normal people do. My family is in theater, and those are the hard working people, going on stage singing and dancing day in and day out worrying about whether their voices and bodies will withstand all the hard work. To sit around on a set, with embarrassing dialogue written for you, and get paid for it, is something she and that idiot heidi montag should thank God for on a daily basis.

And I beg to differ with the person who said it is dialogue written for unintelligent teens….my daughter is 13, extremely more mature than this cast, and wouldn’t waste a minute of time watching such immaturity and ignorance. I cannot believe these actors actually get paid for doing ridiculous things and acting stupid. If stupid was the criteria for getting on the show, then they casted brilliantly.

Give up fashion Lauren – your clothes look like Togas and would be perfect for the toga scene in Animal House….If you want to do fashion, and I don’t know what your background is, then apply to FIT or Pratt or Rhode Island School of Design and get off the TV since it is such “hard work”.

Jojo

Tina…you want to help out poor Lauren Conrad now that her lame clothing line has been tossed? GET YOUR OWN LIFE ALREADY. With losers like you living vicariously through these un-accomplished nobodies it’s not hard to see how they get so popular so quickly for DOING NOTHING. Pathetic. It’s so funny…here in NYC these clothes are a laughing joke.

Lisa

Not a chance. They aren’t anything interesting, and are overpriced. I have to agree with the majority.

Plus, sorry LC, but Heidi has you on this one. Her clothes are way better looking AND priced.

Rae

Lauren’s clothes are too expensive if she is trying to sell her clothes to her fans. She has to realize that all or most of her fans are not rich and does NOT live in Beverly Hills therefore, she needs to take it down a knotch.

Kitson Sale Staff Rude

Have shopped at Kitson on Robertson probably 4x this year, and every time the salespeople are not existent, and the cashiers have the “can’t be bothered” attitude. Every time I buy something there, I say to myself, “never again.” I went to the Kitson warehouse sale down the street a couple of weeks ago, and saw Lauren Conrad’s clothing on clearance (not selling at the markdown prices, either). The clothing line was clearly overpriced for the quality. And Kitson is right, Lauren didn’t promote the line. So, in my book, both Kitson’s owner, Ross, and Lauren Conrad are both in the wrong.

Caligirl

I would not buy anything from her clothing line because theres nothing special about the pieces. I’m sure Lauren Conrad wouldn’t wear it, I think Heidi clothing line looks better. It was a good try but I think that she needs to stick with reality television.

Rashida

I haven’t purchased any of her clothes either. They are nice, but plain. Subduded. I like that “Audrina” dress. I think that her goods are priced too high for what they are, plain dresses.

Lisa

I have to agree with the majority of the people, how does Lauren get a clothing line, just because she has a tv show, (BTW, the show is definitely fake!) If she wasn’t “famous” she wouldn’t have a line. It will be interesting to see once the whole “Hills” craziness dies down, where Lauren will be. I bet you will find her clothes line at the local goodwill stores!

Andrea

Kitson is a bit spoiled, I think. They dropped another *celebrity* a few months back for the same reason. I think they want somebody to kiss their backsides so that they will promote the line. But, with that said, I do agree with you guys that LC’s line is overpriced and plain.

LA

No, her line is very boring and way to expensive for the boringness!! I’m glad Kitson dropped it!

Kelly

It’s ridiculous that this store owner would blast her. Regardless of how you feel about LC, it’s ridiculous to expect that she has time to stop by every store selling her line and chat with the sales staff. Besides, she is new to the business and it might have been helpful for Mr. Ross to let her know that this was expected of her as opposed to telling the press after the fact.

Carol

Her clothing line is like her, plain and boring. I can’t believe people watch The Hills. yawn!

Beth

NO!!

keisha

Yep, I bought her Katherine Wrap and I love it.

aj

I have to admit the stuff is cute but not original. What’s killing it is it’s way too expensive!!

Naomi

“Regardless of how you feel about LC, it’s ridiculous to expect that she has time to stop by every store selling her line and chat with the sales staff. Besides, she is new to the business and it might have been helpful for Mr. Ross to let her know that this was expected of her as opposed to telling the press after the fact.”

Kelly,

if she really wanted this whole designer thing to work, she would have looked this up herself. You can’t just jump into something without knowing what you should do first. If she wants to be known as a “top designer” she should have already known what is expected of her. You can’t just expect everything to be handed to you just because you are famous. She wanted recognition for something that she doesn’t even have time for. Either way, famous or not, you’ll eventually reap what you sow.

Kitson Drops Lauren Conrad's Clothing Line | The Star Celeb

[...] has been reported by people.com that Fraser Ross, owner of Kitson, has dropped Lauren Conrad’s line from his well-known [...]

Jules

Serves her right. Her line is overrated and overpriced…..

isabel

Uhm LC is not a celebrity, is not a designer and more importantly is super fake. No thanks.

Jonathan Bodack

I haven’t bought anything from LC’s clothing line because I’m a guy! If I was a girl, then I would buy stuff from her clothing line, as long as it fits, etc.?

Cindy

I have look at her clothes online and I think they are very cute and have considered buying them but I haven’t yet because they are too expensive and seem to be one sided, they seem like the same colors and designs just put together different ways through out the line. I think I will wait until I can try them on in person to make sure they are worth the money or wait until they go on ebay!

Barb

I like the hills show and LC for the most part. However, i have not boughten any of her clothes. Actually i haven’t really come across any. However, i don’t think i would if i did. Honestly, her designs are a bit boring for me and way to expensive. I truly feel that Heidi Montag has a way nicer fashion line and it’s more affordable. (Despite what people may think about her at least in that area she has Laureb beat.) At least that is my opinion.

Lucy

Her clothes are made from jersey material which is dirt cheap and often tacky no matter what design you can come up with and should be priced accordingly no matter which store is selling it. Really, I don’t see anyone wearing that kind of material other than as some sort of t-shirt or tube top. There’s NO way I would wear that ugly material as a dress. SHE doesn’t even wear her own line-why should she expect us to be dumb enough to? She wants us to buy a $300 cotton jersey dress(ewww) when we could pick up a similar look for $20 at Forever 21 so that she can make tons of money off it and turn around and buy very cool expensive quality clothes from real designers while we are walking around in her rags?

sally

Love the clothes. Try them before you trash them. The $300.00 dress will last me years but your $80.00 dress will not. See the difference. Cheap is cheap. Quality is quality.

Lucy

Ummm, Sally who wants to wear a dress for years? Classic pieces you would want to wear for years but these dresses are not what one would call a classic look. They are trendy and you don’t wear trendy for years. Her winter 2007 line is like 40% off now. That’s cause they are WINTER 2007 not WINTER from 2007 to 2027. So yeah, you go ahead and wear that dress for years. Hey, at least it’s stretchy so you can wear it through pregnancies! Wow!

KelseyKat

Lauren’s line isn’t creative. It’s boring, basic stuff that I could buy anywhere. It’s also overpriced for an uncreative, boring, basic line.

Ariel

It is one thing to spend a lot of money on unique, real designer clothes. Her clothes are boring! No one should pay that type of money for basics by LC. If you want high quality basics, GO TO THEORY. They are sharper and reputable.

Socialite Dreams

very very womp clothing, i wouldn’t have even looked at it. It’s so plain and boring

http://socialitedreams.wordpress.com

stacey

Does this wanna be a celeb ever go away? Isn’t her 15 minutes up yet. The girl is a train wreck.

Dorothy

Well deserved if you ask me! Her line was totally Yawn- so boring and overpriced at the same time. Even if she was at Kitson 24/7 I doubt the sales would have been any better- when a clothing line lacks creativity nothing could possibly fix that!

Peanut

LC’s clothes are nice and do fit well if you are a smaller person, but I must agree with MANY of the posts that I have seen – go to Target, H&M or FT21. You can get many of the same pieces for a fraction of the cost, save the money! If you want a desginer line that is just a tad more expensive go for T-Bags, the prints and styles are amazing.

Jane

Everything in that picture looks very cute, but it’s not exactly original or unique; it looks as if it could be designed by anyone. I haven’t bought anything from it, but I’m guessing that it’s all overpriced, especially for the simple clothing in the picture. I agree with Nicky- if it was about half the price I may take a look.

Lauren

Looking at her clothes now some look a mess and you can get clothes like that just as cute for less and at the mall…like wet seal and they look way better!

Nadine

I bought two things from Lauren line and I am very satisfied. I cannot find it in any store, so I bought things online. The material is soft and very wearable not to mention good quality. I have been wanting to purchase more, but they are often sold out. I think she will be successful since her fall line is cuter than her previous line. I am looiking to buy 4 items from her fall line.

ava

maybe if her line was actually worth the money she’s asking customers to pay, it would have worked out. the clothes just dont look that expensive.

Cucumber eyes

why would i? she’s wanna be star and she doesn’t do anything in her life that’s worth and that would make my buy anything she “designs”…

Ambiepants

Lauren seems like a nice girl. I just don’t care for the clothing line at all because it looks to be made of modal or jersey-knit pieces… all in loosey-goosey, potato-sack shapes. You can get the same quality clothing at Old Navy for a fraction of the price too. Just my .02.

Ivy

I give Lauren Conrad props for making the decision to have all of her clothes manufactured in the USA. She could have chosen to have the items manufactured overseas and sold them at half the price while earning a higher profit marger. However, she made the tough business decison to sacrifice proft while maintaning quality standards and contributing to the US economy. She’s created fun, flirty staples that young adults can invest in and wear for more than one season. I hope she continues to prove that it is possible to earn a living doing what you love without sacrificing your values!

J

I have to agree with India, her clothes are pretty generic looking. The materials and the design can’t justify the price. You can find clothes like that 10x cheaper at Forever Twenty One. It’s true. Why pay $300 for a dress when you can pay a reasonable $30 for one? Maybe if there was something particularly unique about the design, I’d buy something. She needs to put real work into her designs instead of doodling for 5 minutes.

believeingirl98

I wouldn’t buy her clothes at all! It’s just plain boring and also Hedi’s line too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lk

haha sarah that was histerical i was thinking the same thing!!!

Cec

Lauren just give up, your designer skills suck. not to be mean but that is just something you have to be born with, do not even try again. You might make it maybe at the very least if you rip off other peoples designs but you are going to embarass yourself. just face it, you arent a creative person.

I love her clothing line, but it is way over priced… you can get almost the exact same thing at Ross for like 100 dollars less… :(
