I have long, thick, wavy hair that will go into loose spirals on good days but just gets puffy and frizzy on bad days. After fighting with it for years this is what I’ve figured out:

Use the most gentle, natural shampoo possible. I live in a humid place so I have to wash the roots every day. I use Hamadi shampoo which is 100% natural and biodegradable and Hamadi shea butter conditioner. Unfortunately the Hamadi products are stupidly expensive, but most shampoos just make my hair puff up and totally uncontrollable probably due to the sodium laureth sulfate mentioned in the above post.

Frederik Fekkai makes a great curl cream for all types of curly hair, I just goop it on while my hair is really wet, scrunch it up and let it dry.

Just before I go outside I spray it with Pureology Glossing mist. This is the best anti friz I’ve ever tried.

I use bed head and a flat iron…..the best two inventions ever.

My most-talented stylist introduced me to a soy tri-wheat conditioner which is sprayed in a mist on damp,towel-dried hair. My hair is long and fine yet thick. This product made by sexy hair
has distroyed my former refusal to try a leave- on conditioner. In the hot, humid south- this has been the answer to my hair prayer.

CURLY GIRL, I COULDN’T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF! I have fought my curls for every one of my 35 years and have found everything you said to be 100% true. These tips are exactly what you need to do if you have curly hair. Don’t fight the curls, embrace them! Straight hair is boring anyway. ;-)

The BEST and when i say the best its the best hair product is a brand called Ouidad (pronounced Wee-Dad) is the most amazing hair line that will control frizz and curls better then probably any other brand anyone ha ever used. Every single day after i get out of the shower i let my hair air dry until i have some dampness left in my hair and i apply the Ouidad Climate Control Heat and Humidity Gel and i brush that thru my hair and then i use the TRESemme Bouncy Curls Extra Hold Defining Gel and i scrunch my hair with that and my curls don’t turn out crunchy but soft and amazing!

To maintain my curly hair, especially in the summer time…after showering, I NEVER brush my hair, but immediately apply product (Herbal Essences Moose for Curly Hair or Fructis Surf Hair) — scrunch, then air dry. When it is dry I add some Fructis Flexible Hold Hair Spray to keep the curls in place and minimize the frizz and fly aways, and like the previous girls have mentioned — do NOT touch my hair all day!

Courtney – what is the treatment called??? I have wavy hair that is VERY highlighted, it’s not super dead, but it’s still very color-treated so I didn’t want to risk having it fall out by getting it perminately straightened.
