Naomi Campbell on YSL: “I Owe Him Everything”

Just hours after hearing the sad news of Yves Saint Laurent’s death, Naomi Campbell made a tearful tribute to the fashion designer, crediting him for her success as a supermodel. “I owe him everything,” she told PEOPLE. “He was the one who campaigned to put me on the cover on French Vogue and I was the first woman of color to be on the cover — that was because of him.” In 1987 Campbell became the first black model to grace the cover of British Vogue, and thanks to Saint Laurent, she made the French Vogue cover a year later. “He was so supportive of me,” she said adding: “Not just for me, for women of color everywhere.” In honor of her mentor and friend, Campbell, who is slated to replace Kate Moss as the face of the brand this fall, wore a YSL autumn/winter 2008-9 creation to last night’s CFDA Awards in New York.

CFDA Chatter: Posh’s Passion for Fashion

Hollywood’s most stylish stars and the fashion world’s elite collided at last night’s Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards at the New York Public Library. Celebs like Mandy Moore, Eva Longoria Parker, Hilary Duff vied for most gorgeous — but Victoria Beckham made sure she stood out from the crowd in short and frothy Marc Jacobs gown overlaid with platinum-trimmed hearts, which was inspired by Yves Saint Laurent. “Victoria’s dress is an homage to St. Laurent,” explained Jacobs. “In every collection I’ve done, there are always nods to St. Laurent,” the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year nominee explained. For her part, Posh was just as enthusiastic about Jacobs himself, explaining, “What Marc does is just genius and for me to wear his clothes is just a huge honor. I love this dress. I think it’s fun it’s comfortable and it’s great for me.” But the star was humble about her own design talents, telling PEOPLE. “I love fashion and I always have. I’ve got a long, long way to go and am working very, very hard [with my own line]. DVB, my clothing line has been tremendously successful, but I’m a starter at this. I’ve got a long way to go [before I could win a CFDA of my own].” See all the stars at the CFDA Awards by clicking here.

SATC’s Kristin Davis’s New Role: Clothing Maven

Carrie fans can already snag their favorite Sex and the City character’s style with Sarah Jessica Parker’s clothing line Bitten, but what’s a Charlotte fan to do? Come this fall, they’ll have their very own clothing collection as well. Actress Kristin Davis has just announced that she’ll be launching an extensive apparel line in partnership with department store Belk. The collection of ultra-feminine clothing and accessories includes intimates, footwear, and handbags and jewelry. And, Davis reveals to WWD, there’s “a lot of crossover” from her character Charlotte’s style sensibility in the line. “Charlotte dresses in a very feminine way, and I love her playful nature,” she says. The partnership with the southern-based company was a natural choice for the South Carolina native, who tells WWD, “I grew up shopping at Belk. It was the nicest store we had, and I’d save my allowance to go [there].” But even if you don’t live in one of the 16 southern states where Belk operates, you’ll still be able to get your Charlotte fashion fix. The items, which will range in price from $38 to $240, will also be available online starting this fall at belk.com. Tell us: Which SATC star’s clothing line would you most like to wear?
