When I wasn't pregnant I wouldn't have been caught dead in plaid dresses with smocking, bows, and peter-pan collars; flowery tops with yards of ruffles coordinated with grandma jeans (also ruffled); and the like--and I refused to wear them when I was pregnant. I couldn't find maternity clothes in which I felt like myself, so I dragged out the sewing machine I hadn't used since my teens and made my own. Good luck to Nicole: having been pregnant herself, she knows firsthand that, to many moms-to be, being comfortable and keeping her morale up by being able to recognize the person staring back at her in the mirror are equally important.
