Hairspray’s Nikki Blonsky On Dressing Plus-Size for SAG

Nikki Blonsky wants to make one thing clear: Curvy girls are fashionable too! “People think that we’re left out in the cold, we’re not,” says Blonsky, a proud size 14. Finding a gown for awards season is tough for every actress, but even harder when you’re not the average Hollywood size 0. “It’s difficult because a lot of designers don’t make plus-size clothing. But a lot of them do.” While Gucci and YSL aren’t begging Blonsky to wear their gowns, stylist Nicole Brewer says, “I think it’s sad because they could be making lots of money if they sold things in larger sizes.” Dress designers like Igigi and Torrid have created fabulous frocks for the Hairspray star, who says the key to dressing plus-size is fit. “It has to have enough coverage and is flowy, but shows off your assets,” says the 19 year-old actress. Well she got it right at this past weekend’s SAG Awards wearing a blue custom dress by Igigi. And Rodeo Drive, listen up! Nikki Blonsky is awaiting your call. “I’m kind of waiting to see if there will be a Prada gown in a plus-size,” she says. “I’d wear it, I’m all about it!”
