We all love to save a few bucks, especially around the holidays. With so many affordable, yet trendy options out there, even stars like Reese Witherspoon (in Simply Vera Vera Wang for Kohl’s), Jessica Biel and Kate Bosworth are getting in on the deals. But shopping for bargains in stores during this season can be a huge pain — between fighting for rack space and standing in line for dressing rooms, we start to wonder if it’s worth it. Want to know our secret? Instead of trolling our fave websites every day to see what’s discounted, we’ve signed up for their email alerts and newsletters to keep tabs on upcoming sales. Just remember to create a special email account so you don’t clog up your personal or work inbox. We did and it’s a lifesaver. Now we want to know what you do! Tell us: What’s your secret for finding good bargains?

Sometimes you have to be willing to get up early or stay up late for “morning” and “midnight” specials inside stores. Stores usually have deeper discounts during these times.

Hit the sale racks toward the end of each season! Brands will mark down their clothing to affordable and incredibly discount prices to make room for new seasonal items. Stick to purchasing basics or items that can be worn even if “out of season” since trends come and go.

Two ways to find great bargains:
1. Shop off season for basics, for example buy tank tops in winter. You’ll be ready when summer rolls around agin.

2. Shop discount meccas like Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Century 21 or Filene’s. The markdowns are always good. For example I found a Cole Hann leather boot for $150
that originally go for 300+!!

I always bargain shop. My tips are to realize that having on designer head-to-toe does not make you fashionable, it makes you look silly. Instead, you should have one (two at the most) investment piece on (i.e. designer denim, designer shoes, designer handbag, etc.) and then the rest of the outfit should be made up of pieces from Old Navy, Target or Gap. No need to spend your paycheck on a basic sweater or tee. With this in mind, whenever you find yourself wanting a new shirt – instead of going to the department stores like Saks, head on over to your Forever 21, Old Navy or Target. Believe me, you’ll save a fortune.

New York’s designer sample sales are a great way to find new bargains, but it’s limited to location.

I shop quite a bit online, so I try to subscribe to as many of my favorite stores/brands as I possibly can, which really helps me learn where all the sales/clearances are at. Plus, the online stores usually send out discount coupons, for both online and instore.

There’s also a really great website called shopittome.com, where you can enter in your clothing size/brand preferences, and twice a week, they will send you an email listing all the specific items (from many different websites) that you might like that are on sale.

And of course, there’s also eBay, which is where I get a lot of my designer dresses and shoes at really good prices.

Resale stores like Buffalo Exchange here in Houston offer designer clothes for nearly 70-80% off.

Also, It’s great to compare in-store prices with Online. Especially sites like Urban Outfitters that have pieces of jewelry and basic tops on sale that aren’t available in store.

Lastly, sites like Zappos.com offer price matching on their shoes and apparel. If you see something for a better price, you call them and they’ll match it and give you 10% off of your order!

I only shop at Thrift Stores. I can spend $20.00 and have 5 to 6 different and great outfits. It’s the thrill of the hunt, plus it’s reuse and recycle. All sorts of great brands are to be found if you are willing to take the time to search. I went to London this year and spent my shopping money at a Salvation Army. It was great!
