Heidi Montag Turns Designer — And Gives PEOPLE the Scoop!

Roger Walsh /Landov

Just when you thought the drama between Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad was dying down on The Hills, Heidi ups the ante with her own clothing line just months after Lauren launched hers. At an event for clothing chain Anchor Blue in Los Angeles, Heidi confirmed her new project with the brand to PEOPLE, telling us “It’s going to be called Heidiwood, and I’m so excited I can’t even tell you!” But unlike Lauren’s line, where most pieces are over $100, Heidi is looking to “be very price-range oriented. I want all my fans to be able to buy it. I want to bring that fashionable clothing line down to a price range where people can actually afford it.” And what to expect of the line, which will launch next spring? ” I do want to do some cute spring dresses, some little flowy summer dresses. I just want it to be fun for girls.” But what we really want to know is how does Heidi expect her line to stack up against Lauren’s? Heidi tells PEOPLE that “[Lauren's] is more of bows and a little girlier, and mine’s going to be more sexy and fun. I think they can both do well. They’re very different. So good luck to her, and I’m not doing this to compete.” Sure, but is there room in The Hills for two designers? We’ll have to tune in and see.

she knows what she is doing!

who in god’s name would be her fan!?

Vicki

She is doing this for her fans? And what fans would those be?

I am so sick of the Lauren Conrad worship. Gimme a break. Anyone in Heidi’s shoes would do the same thing. I don’t know anyone who’d just curl up and die after having a feud with someone. Of COURSE she’s going to try to be successful and one of the most obvious ways is to start a clothing line. Everyone’s doing it so stop trying to flatter LC by making her think Heidi is copying her…and LC’s clothes really ARE plain and overpriced.

Lindsey

I think it is rediculous that they are trying to design clothes. first of all, all of Lauren Conrads clothes have been done before. She is just recreating basic styles, slapping her name and a 100 dollar price tag on them. Words of wisdom, if you want something designer go for Galliano or Lagerfeld. The day Lauren Conrad or Heidi are common household names for iconic fashion is the day I die!

Colby

I really dislike Heidi I think she is doing this all for attention. I love LC and Lo and I think i like the show with just Lauren and Adrinna together. Also Heidi’s line isnt that cute its all little shirts and dresses that are so ugly.

Bethany

I love how the sign in the background says la la land…That’s where she is if she thinks anyone will be interested in what she’s selling. Her singing sucks, so now she has to find something else to keep her fake like going. What a loser!!!

Catherine

Heidi is so much better than Lauren. And her stuff will be cheaper, which is great. LC’s clothing line is like 150 dollars for a simple T. Good for you Heidi!

Kristi

Heidi is just trying to test all of the waters in Hollywood. So far, she has seemed to have failed at all of them. Good luck with your knock off clothing line!

Margo

Fashion is all about personal preference and what’s affordable to the buyer. It doesn’t surprise me that both Heidi and Lauren have the same types of interests. I guess timing is everything. I say good luck to the both of them and to each their own. I mean, the fact is that regardless, they’re both gonna benefit from their talents. Keep up the great work girls.
