Trendwatch: Stars Sparkle in Silver Dresses at the AMAs

Some of our favorite stars lit up the stage at last night’s American Music Awards wearing the night’s brightest trend, shimmering platinum dresses. As much as we love a little sparkle, we usually think that less is more. But these celebs kept their looks from going over-the-top glam by balancing the glitz with simple silhouettes and spare accessories. High School Musical 2‘s Ashley Tisdale arrived in a knee-length dress embellished with a sequin butterfly across the bodice and carrying a chic silver clutch. New mom and newlywed Melanie Brown took a break from rehearsing for the Spice Girls reunion tour in a figure-flattering sequined number and silver sequined shoes that gave the paparazzi’s flashbulbs some pretty fierce competition. And Fergie performed her signature song “Fergalicious” wearing in short Jenny Packham sheath glimmering with multi-sized silver paillettes and an elegant cuff. I love sparkly dresses! Ashley’s is nice but a little too long for me for the type of dress is it. Fergie’s is a little to short and she does look pregnant. I love Mel B’s! It’s cute and fun and the white really pops against her darker skin tone.

It was hard to choose between Ashley’s dress and Mel B.’s, but I’m really liking Mel’s the best. I like Ashley’s dress too, and I think the dress fits her personality and her age, she looks great. Both ladies have beautiful hair and make-up.

I think Fergie’s dress is too short. If it were like Mel’s or sat a few inches above the knee that would have been way better. Also, and I’m just saying, but Fergie needs a hair change. I freakin’ hate that middle part, it makes her face look weird, because she already has a round face and she’s enhancing it. In my opinion, rather then a middle part, she should consider a side part instead or no part at all. I think she would also look great with short hair that falls right below the chin with graduated layers that start at the lips and work there way down, and add some long side-swept bangs. She looks good with the long hair too, because the long hair elongates her face, but I would still consider the long side-swept bang with the side part or no part at all. This is all just my opinion.

These dresses are nice for the people wearing them (maybe Fergie’s is too short, but she has the body to pull off the look) In Hollywood, this look would make you look FABULOUS. But in the real world which most of us actually live in, it is a real risk to wear it because it is so bold and show stopping. But for Hollywood, you go girls you look amazing!!!!
