Trendwatch: Stars Sparkle in Silver Dresses at the AMAs

Some of our favorite stars lit up the stage at last night’s American Music Awards wearing the night’s brightest trend, shimmering platinum dresses. As much as we love a little sparkle, we usually think that less is more. But these celebs kept their looks from going over-the-top glam by balancing the glitz with simple silhouettes and spare accessories. High School Musical 2‘s Ashley Tisdale arrived in a knee-length dress embellished with a sequin butterfly across the bodice and carrying a chic silver clutch. New mom and newlywed Melanie Brown took a break from rehearsing for the Spice Girls reunion tour in a figure-flattering sequined number and silver sequined shoes that gave the paparazzi’s flashbulbs some pretty fierce competition. And Fergie performed her signature song “Fergalicious” wearing in short Jenny Packham sheath glimmering with multi-sized silver paillettes and an elegant cuff.
