Must-See Fashion Flick: Lagerfeld Confidential

courtesy of Film Forum

For less than the likely cost of a single button on a Chanel suit, you can buy a ticket to see the new documentary Lagerfeld Confidential. In it, designer Karl Lagerfeld, the German-born fashion genius who has ruled the revered House of Chanel since 1983, holds forth on life and fashion. His advice on both: focus on the present, don’t dwell in the past, and be willing to adapt. Not given to introspection or self-analysis, Lagerfeld dismisses with a wave of his hand filmmaker Rodolphe Marconi’s insistent questions regarding his sex life — Lagerfeld’s gay — and past relationships. He’s too busy sketching new designs, striding the runway after debuting a collection, shooting photos of Nicole Kidman and a barely-clad male model for Chanel ad campaigns, traveling the globe (often in a private jet) and sharing convivial meals with colleagues and friends. Over one such repast, old pal Princess Caroline of Monaco observes of living the high life, “After a while, you have to stop boozing and go to bed early.” Lagerfeld nods sagely in agreement. (Lagerfeld Confidential is playing in New York City and opens across the country in coming weeks.) -– Leah Rozen, PEOPLE movie critic

Renee’s New Do: Love It or Hate It?

Jim Spellman/WireImage

Whether it’s learning to dance for Chicago or packing on pounds to play Bridget Jones, Renee Zellweger has proved that she’s willing to go the physical distance for a role. But the Oscar winner tends to be simply elegant in her off-duty time, so we had to look twice at her punky new hairdo at the premiere of The Bee Movie last night in New York. Sure, she’s still in classic Carolina Herrera, but check out that short style — it’s even shaved up in back! We love that Renee has gone for such a low maintenance look, but we can see how others would miss her longer locks. Tell us: What do you think of Renee Zellweger’s new haircut? Do you love it or hate it?

Get the Look: Natalie Portman’s Icy Neutrals

Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage

Natalie Portman sparkled in icy neutrals at the 22nd American Cinematheque Award honoring her Closer co-star Julia Roberts. To get the look, her makeup artist Rachel Goodwin first “warmed up her complexion” with sheer Teint Innocence Compact Foundation in Wheat, $55 at chanel.com. Then she added a bit of a flush to the tops of her cheekbones with Irreelle Blush in Neroli Rose, $40. Goodwin applied a sheer wash of shimmery Ombre D’Eau Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Source, $30 to Natalie’s eyelids. Rachel finished with an application of what she calls the “ultimate party girl pink” — Rouge Allure Lip Colour in Surprise, $30 mixed with a bit of Pro Lumiere Correcteur Concealer in Light, $38. The result is a dazzling face to go with her trendy Lanvin purple strapless dress.
