Jennifer Connelly’s Balenciaga Outfit: Love It or Hate It?

Jennifer Connelly has never been the kind of actress to shy away from tough roles — or tough clothing choices. We’ve spotted the Reservation Road star in Balenciaga before, even as recently as Monday night. But we were still a little startled by her choice of outfit for the film’s L.A. premiere last night — her fresh-off-the-runway square shoulder Balenciaga dress and woven sandals with gold heels are certainly the cutting edge of fashion, but are these looks better left on the runway? Jennifer told PEOPLE at the premiere that she picked her outfit because “I really liked it. He’s my favorite designer. OMG But wouldn’t the shoes be supurb with a simple black mini dress or even white or walking shorts. I can see them with so many things.. but not this dress! I think the dress would be great on a younger star, Hayden comes to mind, someone tiny and young. Not on her and not not not with these shoes!!

The shoes are very cute. The dress is hideous and looks like something that I wore when I was about 7. The puffy sleeves remind me of the ’80′s. But the shoes rock! Paired with a simple one colored dress and they would look fabulous!

I think I found the answer to a blind item! I know Paul Bettany was at this event with her. Remember him talking about them making babies the other day, haha. From ENT’s website:

“#3 This jet set actor/actress couple took a few minutes out for themselves at a party the other night. The couple spent most of the night arguing about what the wife was wearing, and made up by having a quickie in the restroom. Probably would have got away with no one noticing, except that she was rather vocal and has a very interesting pet name for her husband.”

I specifically remember JC saying on a talk show she has this funny pet name for her husband, although I forget what it is. Some story about being scared on a plane with turbulence and yelling out her husband’s pet name and then being embarrassed. It has to be them, just look at this dress!

But this dress isn’t far away from that. This is something Brit might wear. What did Jennifer think when she put this on?

That outfit is absolutely heinous! I don’t even know how someone could leave the house in that. The upper portion of the dress looks straight out of a bad episode of Dynasty from the 80s. And those shoes, please!! Jennifer Connelly is so pretty, but some of her fashion choices are so obviously, “Look at me and how different I am”, it’s just lame!
