Nicole Kidman's Rule Breaking White Dresses!

Who says you can’t wear white after Labor Day? Leave it to Nicole Kidman to break the fashion rules — and look totally flawless doing it. The star had a whirlwind weekend in New York, promoting her new film Margot at the Wedding. Friday night, she hit a screening in an ivory Prada dress adorned with a bow, while Sunday night she attended the film’s N.Y.C. premiere in a black belted Balenciaga lace dress. We think that the snowy dresses set off the actress’s pale complexion and blonde hair perfectly, and breaking the rules is what fashion’s all about these days! Tell us: Will you wear white this fall?

Those dresses are in shades of ivory, not a “true” white. The rule about not wearing white after Labor Day refers to a pure white, not ivory or winter white.

MsW on

YES…I would wear white. Colors are what we make them. None of them are off limits no matter what time of the year it is.
Its what you do with it that keeps you in season!

The rule about not wearing white after Labor Day went out of the window AGES ago! The only thing the seaon should dictate is fabric and style, but certainly not something as trivial as color.

how many facelifts and botox injections has nicole kidman gotten done? she looks frozen.

Jenna on

There is just something about her that makes you think she’s from another time. She’s so classy.

Elda on

I love the second dress the best, it’s so pretty just like Nicole.

Heather on

She’s looking real old. Some red lipstick would have gone a long way.

Kate on

Nicole looks great. She looks like she is expecting a baby.

AnnieJ on

Bea-U-Ti-Ful!

Danniella on

No one even listens to that rule. I am gonna wear white! I love Nicole’s first dress, it’s so simple and pretty!

Anonymous on

She looks is so classy and positively flawless. She can definently pull off a white dress.

Jamie on

Nicole Kidman looks so gorgeous!!! Love the second dress!

Glam Guide on

Actually, she’s FOLLOWING the rule – white IS the rule this fall. It is one of the main “colors” this fall and was prominent in almost every designer’s Fall/Winter 2007 collection.

MIRANDA on

i would wear a white dress but none of those there very ugly

I even refuse to put away my white pumps. Strappy white sandals go in the box to wait for next year, but my white pumps go with a lot of my fall outfits, that, unless it is a blizzard, or an icestorm, my pumps make my feet.

She’s got elegance. I wouldn’t wish to be as tall as her, but she can make her shorter men looks good beside her, and I think that is important.

I agree with Jenna, I love her reliable, infallible classiness. I prefer the second dress of the two as well.

Botox/facelifts are part of the job, I don’t think it makes her any less of a woman or an actress. As long as she doesn’t go to the extreme of Joan Rivers, it’s all good. I don’t think she’s exactly obsessed with hiding her age, either… she’s sure to age gracefully, like everything else she does. :)

She looks beautiful as always. Nicole Kidman reminds me of Coco Chanel. Radiant, sophisticated, and classy in everyway.

coco on

She’s so glamourous in the second dress. Don’t be fooled, this is all but marketing:a reminiscence of the Hollywood stars in the 40’s : choice of film characters, delicate, pure attitude and voice, blond hair…(remember his film Birthday girl?)

Natalie on

Nicole is looking worryingly thin. She is certainly not as curvy as she was 10 years ago, or even five years ago.

And what is with her face? She’s erased any sign of natural beauty and in its place remains something plastic and weird.

Me on

The dresses are cute, but the poor woman needs to eat. She is way tooooooo thin. It’s not natural.

Janis on

Love the dresses, but Nicole Kidman would wear them much better with her natural hair color. She’s far too pale to be a blonde – no contrast – and the white washes her out even more.

BoFan on

I just don’t see it. She looks to pruidish with her hair pulled back/up so tight. What happened to the long flowing red curls? She was stunning back then. She’s just gotten too ‘proper’ in her style choices for my taste. Wouldn’t they look great together, Nicole and Keith, him with his shiny highlighted locks and her with her flowing curls?

Jane on

I’m not sure if I would wear all white dresses–but she looks great.

georgie on

she looks boring like usual. and as she’s australian, i think that american dress rules don’t apply to her (or to me, i’m english). when is labour day anyways?

Sharon on

Janis – I think you’re right. Nicole is beautiful, but the hair color is wrong. Her natural color would give a nice dimension to her look. Right now, too brassy, too pale, too one-dimensional with her skin.

christabelle on

I can’t believe that anyone still takes that rule seriously. Not to be disrespectful to veterans but to me it seems like the whole “freedom fries” thing. I mean DOES IT REALLY MATTER??

WendyB on

Hasn’t anyone ever heard of winter white?

anonymous on

a beautiful woman in beautiful dresses. who says you cannot wear “white” after labour day, thought that went out with the turn of the century?

Ashley B. on

The white after Labor Day is stupid. Who cares. I love Nicole Kidman, and I’m so glad to see something about her on your blogs. She’s so beautiful and classy and very talented. I like Nicole in the second dress best. The dress is sexy, but classy still. Being the good mom she is with her 2 kids already, I wish her the best having a baby with Keith Urban, she’s already a great mom {so it seems}, I hope she has a baby soon.

Jill on

I agree with BoFan regarding Nicole’s hair. I miss those beautiful red curls. Regarding her white dresses, she looks elegant in both. The off white color looks good year round. On a personal note, Nicole Kidman always comes across as a fine individual.

Patty on

I agree-she is looking old–especially in the picture on the left.

Couture on

That’s a stupid rule. It’s October and I have been wearing a white bubble skirt last week and this Tuesday. Wear whatever you like if it looks good. All I know is that i was the only one with that skirt on and I got a lot of compliments for it. Don’t listen to rules. Nicole’s dresses are beautiful.

Emily on

I agree with you Lisa. But just as Nicole I can work ANYTHING!!!

lillian on

i love the simplicity of nicole’s choices :)))

Ashley on

That rule is so out dated. That’s like saying you should only high light your hair in the summer and only go darker for fall, or only use sunless tanners in the summer. Boo for the rules, they’re meant to be broken!

I totally agree about the hair color… the strawberry blond was so flattering, this pale pale blond makes her seem tired and washed out.

Sarah on

I don’t see a problem with wearing white after Labor Day, that saying is so old and no longer really matters. Nicole looks Great!!!!!

ALY on

I’ve never actually understood the whole no white after labor day. Why exactly can’t you?
