Was Hollywood in a patriotic mood tonight? The major colors of the night at the Emmys were red, white … and blue! Ali Larter, Kate Walsh and Mary-Louise Parker stunned in shades of crimson. Katherine Heigl, Debra Messing, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Marcia Cross shone in creamy gowns. America Ferrera, Tina Fey, Ellen Pompeo, Kristen Bell and Rashida Jones were all true blue in inky dresses. Red Carpet Makeup Tips from Napoleon Perdis

Gregg DeGuire/WireImage

When you see your favorite stars, like Eva Longoria, hitting the Emmys red carpet on Sunday night, there is one man making sure their makeup looks perfect. Napoleon Perdis (and his eponymous cosmetics line) is the official makeup sponsor of the Emmys and will be touching up everyone from the ladies of Desperate Housewives to Debra Messing as they hit the red carpet. We chatted with Napoleon, who says being on the Emmys red carpet is a “dream come true,” on his top three makeup tips for braving the cameras on the big night!

-Use an all-in-one makeup, like Napoleon Perdis Camera Finish, for touching up your makeup. You can use it for concealer, powder, foundation — you won’t have to worry that there are three different colors of makeup on your face! Just remember to build up coverage, instead of putting tons on at once.

-Line lips last, after putting on your lipstick. When you put on liner last, it helps maintain the shape of the lips and keeps the color from bleeding.

-Keep a highlighter, like Napoleon Perdis Light Patrol, with you at all times. You can use it for eyes, lips, cheeks — for an extra hit of brightness on the face wherever you need it.

Trend Alert: Turquoise Dresses for Fall

JPI; BAUER-GRIFFIN; LANDOV

Fall may be here, but it doesn’t mean that you have to pack up all of your bright summer colors for dark, somber clothes. Jewel tones are heating up for the season, and deep turquoise dresses showed up on three of our favorite blondes last week! From Hayden Panettiere’s silk Cynthia Rowley tunic to Cameron Diaz’s shapely DVF sheath to Kelly Ripa’s belted Catherine Malandrino sack dress, this is a color that works in any silhouette! And it looks great on brunettes too — we’ve spotted Vanessa Hudgens in the hot hue too. Here are a few of our favorites to get you started shopping the trend. . .

Get Hayden’s dress, $370 at cynthiarowley.com, or a similar belted style, $330 at shopbop.com.

Stars Tell Us What They Are Wearing to the Emmys!

Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic

Check out what some of our favorite stars told PEOPLE to expect on the Emmy Red Carpet tonight! Don’t forget to check back during the show for live updates!

Becki Newton: From the front row of the Reem Acra fashion show, the Ugly Betty star gushes, “[For] my favorite experience on the red carpet, I was wearing Reem Acra, so I feel a certain loyalty to her.”

Sarah Chalke: For the Scrubs star finding the pink Monique Lhuillier dress she intends to wear was easy. “I’m wearing the first dress I tried on! [It's] so well constructed and very feminine.”

Ellen Pompeo: Just days from the big event, the Grey’s star still hasn’t made any decisions, but did tip us off. “I do love John Galliano and Michael Kors. Those are my two boyfriends.” Lucky girl!

Laura Bennett: The Project Runway finalist, who will be interviewing on the red carpet for MSN Style Studio, will be making her own dress (she just started on Wednesday!). “My gown is nude gossamer fabric with graffiti beaded letters on the back that say ‘Dress Like You Mean It’.”

Edie Falco: Not one to wait until the last minute, the Emmy nominated Sopranos front woman has had her “simple, but very classic looking” gown for awhile now. “It’s a dark color with little flowers on it and very comfortable.”

Heidi Klum: After two years of sporting a baby bump on the Emmy’s red carpet, the Project Runway host is showing off her new svelte figure in a “very body conscious dress that has an Old Hollywood feel about it,” says Victoria’s Secret makeup artist Linda Hay, who is shopping for matte red lipstick to match Heidi’s tight raspberry-colored gown.

Kate Walsh: The newlywed former Grey’s star does have a dress picked out, but won’t give away too many details. “It’s all a surprise, but it’s simple, elegant and beautiful. I can’t say the color. I’ll say this – you won’t miss it!”
