Summer Must-Have: Daily SPF Moisturizers

alex cao

Even if you’re a bit of a sunscreen slacker during the cooler months, everyone needs some sort of SPF in the summer — yes, even on those cloudy days. The easiest way to incorporate sun protection into your routine is by using a daily moisturizer with SPF. Olay Complete Defense SPF 30 Daily UV Moisturizer, $14 at drugstore.com, is one of our favorites for providing protection in a quick-absorbing sheer formula. For something with a bit more coverage, try Dr. Brandt Tinted Daily UV Protection SPF 30, $30 at sephora.com, which has a subtle bronze hue. Those who prefer sheer — but not totally bare — should go for Dove’s Energy Glow Skin Brightening Facial Moisturizer, $9 at drugstore.com, which has just a hint of radiance. La Roche-Posay Anthelios SX Daily Moisturizing Cream SPF 15, $29 at skinelite.com, is this season’s scientific favorite — the incredibly hydrating cream contains the super-potent (and newly U.S. approved) UVA filter Mexoryl.

What’s On Your Summer Reading List?

Daniele Venturelli/WireImage

Mischa Barton recently took a breather from all the glamour of Cannes to catch up on a little bit of reading — on Roberto Cavalli’s yacht, natch! The actress tells PEOPLE that she’s reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini right now because, “I’ve been reading a lot of books about Afghanistan and Pakistan recently for some reason.” Kudos to Mischa, but my beach reading is a little bit lighter. Besides reading the new Tim Gunn book, I’m spending the weekend with the new paperback edition of Free Gift With Purchase, the view-from-the-top book written by witty Lucky Beauty Director Jean Godfrey June (think of it as the flip side of The Devil Wears Prada). Tell us: What’s on your summer reading list? Any books you are dying to read?Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

The Inside Scoop on Angelina’s Red Carpet Look

George Pimentel/WireImage

We’re accustomed to seeing Angelina Jolie in her usual neutral palette of grays, beiges and blacks, so when she stepped out in a stunning yellow gown for the Ocean’s 13 premiere in Cannes, we just had to know more. Turns out that she started working on it with Emanuel Ungaro’s chief designer Peter Dundas “a little more than a month ago,” an insider tells PEOPLE. Dundas sent her a batch of sketches from which she chose the gown and the color. So no luck for the rest of us in getting one, since “the dress was made especially for her — it’s unique.” But the custom design didn’t end with the gown — Chopard created ten carat yellow diamond earrings and a 20 carat yellow diamond cocktail ring just for her appearance on the red carpet. At least to our impressed eyes, it’s effort well spent!
