Dolce & Gabbana’s Star-Studded Party in Cannes

Francois Durand/Getty; George Pimentel/WireImage

When Rose McGowan told me she’d stayed in Cannes just for the Dolce & Gabbana party (”they’re such sweet guys!”), and Naomi Campbell and Lost’s Michelle Rodriguez talked about ducking out of Chopard’s party early to head over, already it seemed a given that the D&G party Friday was going to be as “glamorous” as the invitation promised. And it was. Besides those three, guests included Kylie Minogue (who danced and sang along to Gloria Gaynor’s special set), Jay-Z, Rosario Dawson, the cast of Entourage (in Cannes to film an episode), and Eva Mendes and Joaquin Phoenix, who’d left their film’s after party to attend. And for those of us who couldn’t borrow a new Dolce & Gabbana frock (or, in the case of McGowan, have one specially made for us), we could still sport a little of the label: Guests were handed huge oversize D&G sunglasses as we stepped onto the silver-glitter-strewn black carpet. (Rosario Dawson – who wore hers as she sang along to “Sunglasses At Night”– told me she loved them.) All the better to hide our eyes as we — celebs included — straggled out of the party somewhere north of 5 a.m. Now that’s glamorous. — Courtney Rubin

Shania Twain Dishes On Fragrance, Recording & Touring

Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic

How does a country music super-star announce her newest fragrance? By inviting a select group of beauty editors to a luncheon in New York City — and I was the lucky one seated right next to Shania Twain. Yep, baby argula salad and white truffle risotto with Shania. And yes, she is completely gorgeous, teeny-tiny, and down-to-earth friendly in a way that is pleasantly surprising when you’re talking about, oh, one of the best-selling female recording artists of all time. She told me she and her husband (and music-producing partner) Mutt Lang will start working on her new album this summer, with a tour to follow next year. “Oh, definitely! We’ll tour very soon after the album comes out,” she said. And the new fragrance? A follow-up to her runaway success 2005 fragrance, Shania by Stetson, her new scent is Shania Starlight by Stetson (sense a theme?), which is meant to reflect the glamorous side of the star with a mix of freesia and sexy jasmine and amber. Shania Starlight by Stetson will be available in September for $18-$42 at department stores, drugstores, and ulta.com. — Elizabeth Lamont
