It’s All About Metallic Nails!

Ramey

The stylish way to keep cool down to your fingers and toes is to paint on an icy, metallic shade of polish like Mischa Barton, as seen in the June/July issue of StyleWatch. This summer, it’s all about metals in every shade—think metallic black like Hit Me With Your Best Shot from Lippmann Collection, $15 at lippmanncollection.com, and the cool bronze of L’Oreal Paris Goldy Lucks, $5 at ulta.com. And Essie’s Loophole, $8 at essie.com, paints on like liquid mercury. So what’s the secret to rocking the metals? Before you go metallic, keep in mind that short nails look best — too much shine could be blinding — and skip the matching mani-pedi. To control the wattage of your shine remember that one coat of polish will be subtle, while coats two and three might have you seeing your reflection! Layer it on according to your mood — it’s the summer to shine.

The Inside Scoop on Jordin Sparks’s Finale Dresses!

Frank Micelotta/getty

Going from average high school student to America’s singing sweetheart requires a certain wardrobe adjustment. So you may have noticed when Jordin Sparks, who wore an affordable dress on last week’s American Idol, stepped it up last night in a custom-made designer frock by Badgley Mischka. Longtime fans of the show, Mark Badgley and James Mischka honed in on Jordin early on. Badgley tells PEOPLE, “We kept thinking, ‘That’s a beautiful young girl; she would look amazing in our clothes.’ ” So when Jordin made it to the top two with Blake Lewis, they jumped on creating her finale wardrobe. Mischka says of Jordin: “She’s absolutely amazing and such a talent. She’s only 17 years old, but we wanted her to look glamorous and feminine.” Judging by the dazzling black dress she wore when she brought the house down singing “This Is My Now,” they’re already on target. Don’t miss tonight’s show to see Jordin’s next Badgley Mischka creation — and to find out if she is going to be the next American Idol!

Would You Try an Asymmetrical Bob Like Rihanna and Kellie?

Blame it on Victoria Beckham — every since she razored off her hair, we’ve been seeing more and more stars crop their locks in asymmetrical bobs like hers (even husband David!). And they’re proving that you don’t need Posh’s bone structure to pull it off. Rihanna and Kellie Pickler gave major jolts to their overall looks with their sleek styles. L.A. based celeb stylist Umberto Savone tells PEOPLE that “more and more women are coming in looking for it. The asymmetrical bob is a very good summer look if it’s cut right.” But a word to the wise — show your stylist some photos to make sure you’re getting the look you want, and not a Flock of Seagulls redux. Tell us: Is this a look you would try? Would you wear an asymmetrical bob?
