Just in Time for Memorial Day: Cute Plaid Dresses

05/22/2007 at 06:00 AM ET

If you aren’t a floral person, but solid colors just don’t seem festive enough for a holiday weekend — try plaid instead! Stars like Drew Barrymore and Lauren Conrad already are rocking this preppy staple, which can easily take you from a relaxed backyard barbeque to a night out with friends. Still a little chilly where you are? Try a version with sleeves, or if the heat is already on in your neck of the woods, try a strappy sundress. Check out a few of our favorite finds (we even found the look for less than $25!).

I REALLY hate plaid. It is the most unflattering pattern imaginable! Remember the late 90’s plaid pants, that made you look about 30lbs heavier. I think the only thing plaid in my house is an old flannel of my hubby’s.

Cute!!! I love summer dresses, and while I HATE the one Drew is wearing, she still looks great beacause she is a beautiful person on the inside! :-)
She’s a terrific, talented actress… and totally beautiful! So excited that she is the new Cover Girl.
LC looks cute, but would’ve looked better with some white heels, instead of those flats.

Hey…does anyone know where either girl’s dress is from? I love them both! Volcom makes one similar to Lauren Conrad’s, but the sizing is quite limited (and in junior’s). Help!

I love Drew, and the style of her dress is cute, but I don’t like the plaid and wouldn’t wear it with flip-flops. Lauren’s dress is would be cute as a sundress and I like the plaid of that one a lot more.

Drew’s “dress” reminds me of the snap or zip front housecoats that both of my grandmothers wore when I was a child. All she needs is a head full of curlers and some fuzzy slippers to complete the look!

Did I see the word cute? I never imagined I see the words flannel and sundress in the same sentence. Who writes this stuff?

Both these dresses are ugly and unflattering. They look like someone cut up Kurt Cobain’s old shirts from the 90’s and (unskillfully) sewed them into a dress. Plaid dresses can be cute, but these are not.

funny comments, guys! and i have to agree, i don’t think these dresses are cute or flattering, but the girls who are wearing them are cute! drew’s i can forgive more because she is clearly on down time. but lauren’s choice to wear it at a photographed event is uncharacteristically unstylish of her. and what’s up with the light pink wrist sweat band?

It’s not lumberjack plaid here, night!!!! I said I hate Drew’s dress (but love Drew) and Lauren’s plaid dress is pastel colors, it IS cute/summery! It looks really comfortable, too!
