How Cameron Went Blonde -- Without Damaging Her Hair

05/14/2007 at 12:00 PM ET

After getting over the shock of seeing Cameron Diaz back to blonde, we were wondering how she (and other stars like Jessica Simpson and Nicole Richie) was able to switch between light and dark locks without destroying her hair. Turns out that familiar reddish-brown hue that we’ve seen all the stars sporting is actually part of the process of switching shades. “To make your hair dark from blonde, you have to use a color refresher to make it look shiny and dark,” explains Rita Hazan, who is Simpson’s long-time colorist. “When you transition back to blonde, you let the refresher wash out and you have to go through an orange-y, reddish stage for a month or two. Then you can achieve the blonde you want — in a healthy way.” Another mystery solved. . .

she looks great, but i prefer her dark(er).
are we to assume jessica simpson is going through this same process?? somehow i’m thinking ‘no’…

I kinda like the reddish brown color…..it’s different.

Where do you find Lindsay Lohan’s Fedora in her picture from today’s photos??

i love the emerald earrings in the middle picture, and the blue of her eyes really “pop” so much in the third. i think she looks best with the blond highlights but i like the auburn too.

She looks so much better as a blonde! I didn’t like the dark hair at all. The blonde softens her features and I think she looks younger.

I really love the dark for a more seductive siren look. The blond is beautiful on her too, it makes blue eyes pop. I couldn’t choose which I like best, they both suit her perfectly. I myself have been every shade in the book and I’m sticking with my rich deep browns.

I just completed the same hair journey of dark brown to light blond, with no hollywood hairstylist a chunk of my hair split in half and fryed off. It happened to be right by my forehead so fortunately I get to style it into bangs! Cam looks fab in every shade she’s gorgeous but the blond is the most becoming on her and suits her personality.

She looks so good at every stage! She has fantastic eyes.

I hope this means Jessica is transitioning back too… the oompa-loompa orange at the Met Costume Gala almost made me cry!
