How to Smell Like Donatella Versace

05/11/2007 at 03:50 PM ET

As I waited to meet Donatella Versace, in New York to promote her newest perfume, I couldn’t help but think of the only other version of the famous Italian designer I had known until now — her doppelganger on SNL, played hilariously by Maya Rudolph. But the diminutive woman who appeared in front of me was nothing like the crazed TV diva. In a quiet Italian accent, she described her experiments to create the ultimate floral bouquet. “I really like floral fragrances,” she said, “like water lilies and jasmine, mixed with something salty, like musk.” Want to become Versace’s modern woman for a day, enveloped in wisteria, lilac, and lotus flowers? Check out the complete line of perfume, body lotion, and shower gel at saksfifthavenue.com. — Thailan Pham

ohh please JULIE GET OVER YOURSELF!..do u personally know Donatella? or is there some other reason that you feel the need to act as the moral conscious for the bloggers on this site?????…everyone is entitled to there OWN OPINION and it is not your responsibility to judge the moral content of this site. GROW UP. GET A LIFE.

Is her hair real or does she wear extensions? It looks real and in good condition for being bleached out. I suppose she has done too much tanning and isn’t the prettiest woman but please dont make fun of her. Be nice!!!

The whole point of this website is to give opinions and it is human nature to talk badly about others. Julie, I’m just so sure that you have never spoken ill of anyone in your entire life. This woman does look like leatherface and she is rich as hell and doesn’t give a crap what us peon’s have to say so take your goody goody goodness me elsewhere!

I never said anyone wasn’t entitled to an opinion. But wait, am I not entitled to my own?

And I wouldn’t call it “grown up” to call strangers names over the internet. Just the opposite, actually.

Summy, it’s not that I haven’t spoken badly of someone before. It’s just that I try not to. You’re right that I’m trying to overcome human nature — it’s actually part of my religion. But even if it isn’t part of yours, I think most people try not to be mean in their daily lives.

Some comments are just snarky, but I think the venom that girls sometimes spew about other girls is heartless. And if it’s okay for someone to call a stranger “leatherface,” it’s okay for me to say that I think that’s pretty mean.

Also, enigma, thanks, but I’m pretty relaxed. Just not okay with some things, and willing to put in my opinion about it.

Why would I want to smell of cigarettes and vodka? YUCK!

Hey Julie,

I think it’s a very commendable act, not to be mean on a daily basis, tough at times for some people but, trying never hurts. I, myself, practice no religion, I believe in connecting the good/positive/inspiring energy of the universe.

Well, I try to be a good, encouraging, positive person in my daily life and here in “off the rack” and yet, I try as well to see things from every perspective with equal respect because it gives me a greater understanding of how things actually are.

So, basically, I am glad for your posting, because it’s a different perspective. Plus, I am sure you are a very relaxed individual too, excuse me for stressing it so much in my last posting to you!!

Laters and Cheers!

NO, I will not spend my hard earn cash on any of her products, and to be honest the lady is just ugly.

The moon is gone.

She fled as dawn approached.

Dawn as a slowly opening eye.

White sea birds skimming over the water,

looking for an early morning snack.

The mirror brightens.

From a blood moon at dawn to a mirror

reflecting waking life…

#######

I woke her to take the moon.

Her campaign was swift and terrible.

Metallic and fierce.

Glaring up in the twilight.

But the moon was both implacable and unreachable

and in the end the war against the moon failed.

As dawn rose slowly from her bed, the moon slipped away.

But in the end, all that was lost,

was a little sleep….
