How to Smell Like Donatella Versace

05/11/2007 at 03:50 PM ET

As I waited to meet Donatella Versace, in New York to promote her newest perfume, I couldn’t help but think of the only other version of the famous Italian designer I had known until now — her doppelganger on SNL, played hilariously by Maya Rudolph. But the diminutive woman who appeared in front of me was nothing like the crazed TV diva. In a quiet Italian accent, she described her experiments to create the ultimate floral bouquet. “I really like floral fragrances,” she said, “like water lilies and jasmine, mixed with something salty, like musk.” Want to become Versace’s modern woman for a day, enveloped in wisteria, lilac, and lotus flowers? Check out the complete line of perfume, body lotion, and shower gel at saksfifthavenue.com. — Thailan Pham

Why do people think it’s okay to make rude comments that are clearly malicious just because it’s not to someone’s face? The internet apparently makes people feel like they can say whatever they want about whoever they want.

Honestly, I think the comments you make when no one can tell who you are and you feel “safe” really show your heart.

Hey Julie,

I understand your concern in your comment but, I think those poking fun at her are primarily doing it with a light heart not truly intending to mean, rude, or malicious. And the concerning the internet…yeah it’s the sort of place where you can say what you want, just as you did!

Geez, the comments in this blog are all fun and sometimes very serious, please no offense..but, just chill, relax, and enjoy the fun, okay.

Donatella Versace, she is a very powerful classic figure in the fashion world. She is very fashion forward, her works are bold and different, her advertisements are wonderful, artistic, and professional….she is business savvy and very talented!!

It just looks like she’s been around the block a number of times…so please let us, who see the humor in things, have our light hearted poking fun moments, no harm, okay!

Chill and Laters!

Oh shut up, Julie. She CHOSE to look like this. It’s not like people are making fun of someone who is naturally ugly.

Not to be mean, but she looks like a man. She either has had too much plastic or she is in need of a make over.

I would have bought it had I not seen her face first

Julie, like you haven’t thought of something mean to say. Oh and for the record, I’m using my real name not my nickname like I usually do.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you outthere in cyberspace!
Julie, I agree with you, about all the mean commentaries
that some make here. It’s ok if you don’t like some
celebrities, but that doesn’t mean you have to make fun
or bullying them. As for the perfume I’ll give a try, since this is one of my passions. Yvonne
