I used to be a total shopping addict- we’re talking ultra sicko and I’d spend like 80k a year on clothes. Luckily, I sorta had the money- or rather- my family does… in any case, it’s a waste ladies. It’s a hot bag but ultimately if you’re putting yourself on the line for a damn bag- it’s not worth it. There are a lot of other wiser things to put your money in… and what’s MORE pathetic than having a LOSER handbag is being THAT girl who has a 2.55 and drives a Honda and lives in a crap apartment- get my drift?

If you MUST have it- go for a used Chanel bag- half the price and it’ll keep its value when you sell it!

I’ve always loved those Chanel bags. I wouldn’t spend $2675 on a bag though! Way too absurd! I love Chanel stuff though, its pretty much the only designer I really like. I like some other designer stuff I guess too. I wouldn’t buy designer things just for being able to say I own the new Chanel boots or the new Prada bag. I buy clothes & accessories because I like them and because I like the way they look on me. That is what fashion is all about anyway: showing your style. Many people misinterpret this though. I don’t have a huge ton of money to waste anyway, as I’m only 13.

I’m currently undecided and thought this blog would help point me more towards one end than the other. Pros: I don’t have kids to spend money on, I’ve got dogs but they are completely taken care of, I’ve got a fantastic fiance whom I own a house with and I own another loft on my own. Cons: Cost of the Chanel bag I want is 1k, the same cost of a surf vacation or retreat and/or the same cost can go towards my 2008 wedding fund. Looking for opinions from either side! Thanks!

I’d rather spend my money on things that matter most. Like paying my bills and keeping a roof over my head. You can get a nice looking purse or bag for a lot less. Just look around. If I did have the money, I’d spend it on my kids. Just the look on their faces would be priceless. A purse couldn’t do that.

the link in the article for “replica” bags actually features counterfeit bags which are code stamped and would confuse people who don’t know the difference into thinking they are genuine. not really cool. traveling into France or Italy with a counterfeit bag is a serious crime which can get you fined E375,000. I’d rather buy a real bag, or a fashion bag with some of the elements of the real thing, rather than a “replica” (counterfeit).

I agree with J. My mother gave me one of her LV bags that she bought 25 years ago and its still in excellent condition and still in style. A good quality handbag can last forever if you take care of it.

v: LOL @ your use of the word ‘generic’ when talking about CHANEL. as if.

summy: sometimes the more worn things are, the better they become. louis vuitton is the perfect example of this. chanel leather is of a VERY high quality as well, so if you correctly take care of something, (as you should when paying this amount of money) it will last for years and years. while i know you pay for the name, you DO also pay for quality/durablity, etc.
but to each her own. :)

I just can’t believe people spend that kind of money on a bag. It holds your crap, it doesn’t perform miracles. People call it “timeless”, it’s fabric. It tears, it gets worn out and broken. Ten years from now, you’ll think timeless when it looks like a rag and your too ashamed to use it!

I would never spend that kind of money on a purse. I don’t even like purses yet I’m most comfortable wearing stylish dress pants and heels! I could never spot a fake vs real one … so what’s the point. I’d rather spend the money on a nice family vacation or save it toward the down payment for my next new home.

No. I have so many other things that are more important to me to spend my money on. I try to stay very reasonable when buying clothes. I don’t limit myself to Target and Walmart, but I do stay on the sale racks at the stores in the mall and buy clothes/accessories very infrequently.

i have a black quilted one with patent interlocking c’s and a special edition hot pink interior. i love it. classy and timeless, one of the most favorite handbags i own. WORTH the saving up for and splurge!!
