Sarah Jessica Parker on Other Celeb Designers and Cheap Chic

After seeing her as couture-clad Carrie Bradshaw for so many years, it may be hard to adjust to the idea of Sarah Jessica Parker wearing clothes that cost $20 and less — but the star’s new clothing line, Bitten, for mall mega-chain Steve & Barry’s is just that affordable. In the June issue of Glamour, SJP sounds off on a few other celeb designers, telling the magazine, “Madonna’s line for H&M is extremely directional, provocative and sexy. I don’t know J. Lo’s line as well, but I know that it’s much more trendy than Bitten. L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani is much more avant-garde, definitely high fashion. But I don’t want to do that for women, because that’s not really their lives.” And growing up with her sister’s hand-me-downs inspired her to do something so affordable, saying “It’s a very different philosophy of shopping. It’s the first and only time I’ve wanted to design. [Her childhood] informed my decision completely. It’s a way of giving women without financial means access to good, simple, well-made clothes to feel proud of.” And even today she is still more frugal than most. “I often return things because the spending gives me anxiety. But I’m not without my indulgences. And I don’t pretend I’m not enjoying the great fortune I’ve had.” Bitten hits stores June 7 — in the meantime, check out Glamour’s slideshow of Sarah Jessica Parker by clicking here.

i sure miss Sex and the City, i just loved that show!!

Terra

I still don’t get – I just don;t see where everyone thinks SJP is so “pretty” or “sexy”………..

evalic

this woman is beautiful n I like yur style of dressing

SEX n the CITY for life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Livia

Yea, I agree, I do not understand why people think she is pretty or beautiful. All her fragrance ads are terrible. Her head looks oversized compared to her body. And I can not take her seriously in any sort of ballet-esque outfit. And I refuse to watch any show (sex in the city) that glorified one night stands, whether it be meant to be empowering for women or not.

Alice

Livia, its obvious from your comment that you haven’t watched Sex and the City if you think its only about one night stands, therefore you should keep your comment to yourself. I would take her”oversized” head over your oversized ego any day.

jennifer

I agree with Livia…I only watched the show like once when I was with someone who actually wanted to watch it. Any show with a title like Sex and the City can only be about being promiscuous. Glorifying this kind of behavior is disgusting and another example of how people act irresponsibly. Anyhow, I do think she seems very sweet and down to earth, and looks very pretty on the cover of the magazine.

Hey Girls, were talking here about clothes not Sex and the
City. I think SJP has a very personal style she knows what
looks great on her, also I’ve never seen her dressed as
other celebs trying to copy their style and she is very down
to earth and I wish I had her hair. Yvonne

Wow people.. seriously, you’ve never seen the show?? It’s a show that defines a generation, promotes feminism and female strength, highlights the importance of female friendships, and hits many issues that can’t be possibly listed here. Watch it, then comment.

I believe that Sarah Jessica Parker is a beautiful woman, and not just because of her looks. You can tell that she is a sincere, genuine, kind person. She has made something of herself after a lot of hard work. With regards to her style, she has helped launch so many trends – some having been seen on “Sex and the City”, and others off-screen – and can carry off just about anything. For those who either refuse to give “Sex and the City” a chance, or have and did not like it, they should open their minds and realize that despite the word ’sex’ being a part of the title, does not mean that it is the ONLY thing that the show is about. It doesn’t ‘glorify one-night stands’. Yes, sex is depicted on the show, and it is often discussed by the characters, but not in a crude, unrealistic way. I learned a lot about dating and relationships from this show – without having to go through the heartache myself to learn these lessons. “Sex and the City” has scores of fans, both women and men of a variety of ages. I find myself wondering if the show were about men, their relationships, and yes their sex lives, would more people find it acceptable? After all, sexuality is natural, so why shouldn’t women be able to talk about it? Episodes of “Sex and the City” have also addressed issues including the repercussions of unprotected sex, the importance of getting tested, and of course, the independence of women. Obviously it’s not appropriate for young viewers, but once you’re about 17 or 18, I’d definitely recommend checking it out.

Well said S, I hope more posters read your comment!!

I haven’t seen “Sex and the City” so I can’t really say anything other than, S’s description was my general understanding of how the show was/is presented!!

And, for the posters who make statements about something they don’t know….just clarify you don’t know okay…it took me awhile to realize it’s OKAY NOT TO KNOW everything! I’d rather admit not knowing than look foolish…please, no offense!

Cheers!
