Trendwatch: Bold Black & White Striped Dresses

Do not readjust your sets — these bold black and white lines are supposed to be there. With their off the shoulder or asymetrical neckline and graphic impact, these dramatic dreses are a mash-up of the ’80s glam revival and the 60′s mod trend of the past year. From Sienna Miller’s Calvin Klein to Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B to Thandie Newton’s Giles Deacon dress, the trend is making a big statement on some pretty big style icons. In all fairness, it’s not the the easiest trend to pull off (remember what your mother told you about horizontal stripes not being flattering?) but a sharp silhouette and minimal accessories is definitely the way to go. Tell us: Is this a trend you’d try?

no i dont like it…i dont think that it is flattering….

i don’t think so. they are so severe, that i find myself only looking at the dress and not at the face of the person wearing it. i thought your clothes were supposed to comliment you, not overpower you. sienna’s is the only one that isn’t completely distracting, and looks a little more relaxed.

I think the trick with making monochrome stripes work is making sure you wear one other standout color item, like Gwen’s bright lipstick, or possibly a pair of really bright shoes. Granted, it’s a hard look to pull off, but I think Gwen’s done it best out of the three! Seriously, with the right accessories and the attitude, it could work!

i just don’t like the pattern of these dresses, i agree Sienna’s dress looks better then the rest.

I like the dresses as sort of fun pieces, but I agree with faith that they overpower the person instead of complementing.

Bold Stripey dress is not something you want to step out in unless you are a celebrity and want to be a trendsetter! Otherwise… if the lines are subtle then maybe… Overall… no i dont think i would wear that dress..!
