Jennifer Hudson’s Oscar Dress Hits The Runway

The Oscar de la Renta Fall 2007 fashion show at Tuesday’s Saks Fifth Avenue Colleagues’ luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire featured lots of dresses paired with boleros, but honoree Brooke Shields kept it simple in an LBD and heels by the designer. Perhaps she recalled the beating Jennifer Hudson took when she showed up to the Oscars in one of Oscar de la Renta’s shiny cropped creations. In fact, J Hud’s bolero and brown dress actually made an appearance at the luncheon. No, not on Molly Sims and Angie Harmon, who showed up in more demure dresses from the designer, but on the runway, where it garnered a far more favorable reaction – there was actual clapping as people gasped at the idea that this was the much maligned dress. Another fashion déjà vu moment: the fuchsia gown worn by Jessica Biel. Note to Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley, who infamously styled Hudson for the Oscars: just because a look works on the runway doesn’t mean that it’ll work on the red carpet.

Yeah, wow. If i was Oscar de la Renta I don’t think I’d ever let Jenifer wear that dress on the red carpet. The dress is beautiful on the model – who it was designed for. Eek.

Jenn Hudson didn’t look good in that dress and neither did the model. The dress is ugly and so is the bolero. I hate that people are so quick to judge her and her clothes. “She shouldn’t wear this and that.” Larger women are slowly but surely becoming more acceptable in Hollywood so get used to it Steph.

I’m floored that larger women are becoming “acceptable” BUT the majority of couture designers are still designing for women who look like the model pictured above. Therefore – these larger women should get stylists who recognize this and help them achieve a look that compliments their body – not stylists who squeeze them into couture gowns.

And that dress is beautiful. The bodice is gorgeous and the way it drapes and flows on her legs is elegant. It definitely channels Grace Kelly’s gown in to catch a thief.

I kind of liked the dress although that I agree that for such big event she could have chosen something way more impressive like the gown that she sang in. Honestly I think Jennifer looks million times better in that dress then the model does.

‘let her’ wear it?!?!? she’s an adult, was she forced into it?! VERY bad judgement on the stylist’s part–thinking this would look good on her body type with that hair fighting the bolero. i hope jennifer learned her lesson. fact is, it’s meant for the runway, and if it doesn’t look good on the model it’s not gonna look good on YOU!!

I don’t think the dress itself is ugly… Jennifer Hudson looked fine once she got rid of tha tridiculous bolero. And the way they popped the collar… it just looked like some futuristic abhorration.
But… for Jennifer Hudson’s big night (come on, we all knew she was going to win the Oscar) I think they should have chosen a dress that was more of a stunner anyway, bolero or not.

Come on, people!! Jennifer Hudson looked GREAT in that dress!! I think she looks better than the model. It complimented her skin tone and hair color, and the bolero added a funky twist. LOVED IT & loved it ON J-HUD!
