Trendwatch: Hot Pink Lips For Spring

04/03/2007 at 01:00 PM ET

As spring rolls into full gear, it’s time to say good-bye to deep red lipstick. The new must-have color is fuchsia! Fergie jump-started the trend back in December, and then we spotted Beyonce with a glossy pink pucker on the Today Show earlier this week. Beyonce’s makeup artist Francesca Tolot tells PEOPLE that she was going for, “an 80’s look for Beyonce with green eye shadow and the fuchsia lipstick. I think 80’s retro makeup will be big for the summer.” Tell Us: Would you wear fuchsia lips?

Of course I would wear Fuschia lipstick!

I love the color, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to bring back the whole eighties thing for your entire face. Less is more…..most women in the eighties looked like clowns!

Yes, this is one of my favorite colors in lispticks. If you
want to go a little retro try Cherries in the snow a Revlon
1950 classic. My mother wore it and myself as a child started to play
with it. Its bright but not neon and it gives this glow
to your smile and it matches very well with fair, medium and dark complexions Yvonne

Hello Yvonne,

I have been looking good red lipstick. Can I find it anywhere Revlon is sold? This might sound silly, but Revlon still makes the color, right?

Bye,
Take Care,
May

It’s a pretty colour but it wouldn’t look good on me. I’m very pale and I too would look like a clown if I where to wear it.

This color doesnt suite everybodys complexion and hair color.I have fairly light skin with black hair-can you picture the disaster that will come out with a lips like this?Fergie looks Ok Beyonce not so much.

I think fair skinned girls can absolutely wear bright lipstick – if done right. I have fair skin, but my lips are naturally red…I mean, red-red. So this color is actually toning down my lips. Of course, I get lots of color in the summer, so I’m not always this white. I think to each her own – if you can wear, then rock it out!

Hot pink lipstick is supercute, especially if its the only makeup you’re wearing. The one I want is from MAC in Rocking Chick which is from the Barbie Loves MAC collection which is, of course, all sold out!

Though it is a pretty colour, not everyone can pull it off. I personally, cannot. I look like either an extra to Fame or a hooker when wearing fuchsia on my lips. If you can wear it and make it look good, more power to you!
