I don't think it's at all unexpected or even inappropriate for a woman who was obese all of her life to want to show some skin in clothes that are not entirely age-appropriate. I think her personality was a result of self-loathing and as she is getting more comfortable in her own skin, it will change. The average age for getting married is 25 for women. She got married at 40. I never really disliked her until the bridezilla phase, but I think her weight coupled with her age and insecurity probably led her to act the way she did.
