Mischa Barton: Fashion Multi-Tasker

Mischa Barton is due at a launch for Keds in less than an hour, so she’s multi tasking: “These onion rings are good,” she announces on my arrival at her Knightsbridge hotel suite, with an onion ring in one hand and a pair of Keds sneakers in the other. As ambassador for the sneaker line, Mischa is in town for the brand’s London launch. “I design as well,” she says as I sneak a look at her super skinny jeans and make-up free, dewy complexion with green envy. “I have some input – especially these sneakers with the hearts on them, they were inspired by me,” she says proudly. “They’re even going to be sold at Topshop which I thought was cool.” So how does her home town of London compare in the style stakes to her native New York? “I am a bit of a downtown girl because I live in Tribeca. I like the vintage shopping in New York. English style is sometimes more refined, it’s more about matching.” One quick change later, she reappears in a sparkly Miu Miu black dress and matching black Keds. I guess she is a Brit at heart! — Monique Jessen

Would You Wear Black Lipstick?

While we’re sure to see some of the front row stars — including Elisha Cuthbert, Ali Larter and Ginnifer Goodwin– decked out in her gorgeous sequined dresses, we were more intrigued by the spooky makeup at the recent Imitation of Christ show in L.A. Always pushing the envelope, designer Tara Subkoff’s models rocked pouty black lips down a bone-strewn runway to convey what the designer described as a “goth princess ballerina look.” The inspiration came from fond memories of the black lipstick she wore as a rebellious teenager. If (like us) you’re not ready to take the plunge for a full-on black lip, Tara also played up the vampy vibe by using Smashbox Cosmetic’s sheer grape lipstick in “Enchanting.” The shade was a gift-bag freebie for her front row guests, and it’s available online at smashbox.com. Tell us: Would you ever wear black lipstick?

Secrets from the Set: Manly Men Love La Mer!

Forget the ladies who lunch: Johnny Depp, Luke Wilson and Matthew McConaughey are the newest members of the cult of La Mer. The makeup artists on the their movie sets claim the ultra rich (and ultra pricey) product line are what keep the pretty boys, well, pretty. “We tear through La Mer on set,” says Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End makeup artist Ve Neill. “Johnny doesn’t go anywhere without it.” Wilson was a La Mer loyalist on the set of Blonde Ambition. “Luke applies the moisturizing lotion all over when he has had a rough day and loves the cleanser to take off makeup,” says Ambition makeup artist Myke Michaels. Finally, Matthew McConaughey was a fan of the Lifting Face Serum. “It really refreshes and plumps up [his] skin,” says Fool’s Gold makeup artist Nikki Gooley. “He looks brand new again!”

Macy Gray’s Big New Makeover

At times, R&B singer Macy Gray unique, craggy voice is overshadowed by her, uh, unique fashion sense. Remember when she wore a dress to the VMAs emblazoned with the release date of her album? On her best days, there was still that poof of hair and crazy, fur and feather-accented coats. Well, Macy is ready to put those wacky duds to the side and debut a new sleeker look to complement her winning new album, Big, out today, which features guest work by Justin Timberlake, Fergie and will.i.am (of the Black Eyed Peas). Gray recently told Entertainment Weekly, “It was like, enough already with the Afro, so I cut it all off.” The singer also raved about her love of gowns — and promised to step things up a notch in the glamour department. Fingers crossed that she’s serious!

Buh-Bye Conservative: Star Jones is Back to Sexy!

To announce her new Court TV show, the former View host debuted her new legal style surprising all of us with her new sleek bob, tortoise shell glasses, and conservative button-up shirts. But just when you thought you knew what to expect of Star, she flipped it again! This weekend in Miami, she shed her specs and courtroom attire, briging back some of the old sexy style with serious bling, a leopard-print halter dress and a seriously low-cut body suit to show off her figure. We’re glad to see her fabulous new hair remained the same, but what’s Star’s real look? Will she go back to lawyer-conservative or start bringing out the mini-dresses again? Tell us: What do you think of Star’s sexy new look?
