Are You A Trend-Slave Like Ugly Betty's Amanda?

03/16/2007 at 05:00 PM ET

Last night’s episode of Ugly Betty literally had us convulsing with laughter when snarky receptionist Amanda (Becki Newton) donned an outfit that looked more like a torture device than a dress. After being told she was avant-garde designer Oswald Lorenzo’s new “muse,” Amanda was presented with an original creation (named after her, no less) which she immediately slithered into. Once it was on, she couldn’t move her arms or walk without looking like a duck. As Lorenzo’s “assistant” explained, “fashion is a pain.”

We’re all slaves to fashion sometimes — blister-inducing stilettos, insanely skinny skirts, bags that weigh down our shoulders — but we want to know: How much of a trend-slave are you? If you were given a one-of-a-kind creation would you wear it, even if it was a pain? What’s the farthest you would go to suffer for fashion?

You can still fashionable yet comfortable at the same time. For every day outings like running errands, I’ll usually wear flats or sneakers but of course when I go out on weekends i’ll suffer through a night of high heels and stilettos if it pulls an outfit together.

I think a lot of people are slaves of completely unflattering and ridiculous trends just because famous starlets are wearing them (aka skinny jeans, fingerless gloves, leg warmers, etc). I love good fashion, but come on.

As far as I concern, I like to wear what is completely fresh, loose and fits me well, makes me feel comfortable. There are some things that just won’t do it, and many would.
I am not such slave for fashion, even though I love to buy clothes, shoes and accesories as much as any other girl does, I try not to be a follower… and always try to work on my own style, being up-to date and feeling comfortable with it.

Hell no! I’ve got better things to do!

Ok, i confess to being vain, meaning that i wear uncomfortable shoes and tight skirts just because they look darn good, but come on, if you can’t move it’s not worth it!

I like to be fashionable not a victim.. I wear what suits me better. For example, high waisted jeans are starting to be trendy, but they’re definitely NOT for me. They look like mama pants and make your tummy look three times bigger.

No way! No matter how fashionable the outfit is, if you feel uncomfortable and awkward, you’ll never pull it off.

I agree totally with KT from Cda. I have so many more things that are much more important. Besides, my husband laughs at most things that are in style and he is the only person (after myself, of course) that I dress for.

Do not suffer for fashion – just be yourself and wear what is comfy and makes you feel good.
