Spring Trend Alert: Day Clutches

03/14/2007 at 03:00 PM ET

Ready to retire your overstuffed tote bag for something a little sleeker? Why not try a day clutch — still big enough to hold all your essentials but chic enough to take you from day-to-night. The latest issue of Stylewatch has some of the best day clutches around including Gwen’s signature L.A.M.B. clutch in saddle, $395, available at nordstrom.com. We are even giving one away in our Stylewatch Steals (contest ends March 15 at midnight!). Tell us: Would you wear a clutch during the day, instead of a shoulder bag?

I feel that usually clutches are more for formal occasions but they still can be used for day wear and casual places. I prefer a purse with a handle or strap since my other hands are too busy being occupied with my starbucks and cell. I still love this new trend and would definetly try it out.

i would NEVER be able to fit all my “junk” in that tiny thing! big bag stays for me :)

I can’t stand clutches

I like clutches for formal events, but they’re just not practical for a mother of 4. A shoulder strap is a must-have because I need my hands free for carrying babies!

Elda on

i always use purses w/long straps so i can put them over my shoulders, i live in a big city man!!! i can’t take any chances!!

a clutch is not a very practical bag for a mother of two. i would use a day clutch for a lunch date without the kids, but not for everyday use.

I do like this bigger clutch, just no sure its appropriate for my lifestyle and all the crap I have to carry around.

Clutches are really annoying and I can’t stand carrying one. I’m afraid I’ll either forget it – or it will be stolen. Plus they’re waaaaay to tiny!

I guess it’s ok if you’re a big celebrity and have 8 bodyguards around you at all times! :o)

I don’t care for the clutch, but this is absolutely the prettiest photo I’ve ever seen of Gwen Stefani! I normally find her looking a bit much in photos, or not quite put together, but she’s lovely in this one. Now if only we could get her hair a bit closer to a color found in nature!

If I had a personal assistant to carry my junk to work for me everyday, then yea, I might carry a fun day clutch. But since I’m not a celebrity, I will have to stick to my big bag. Clutches are great for going out at night, and formal events, but aren’t practical for day. Where would I put my lunch? My magazine for the train ride? Change of shoes? Umbrella? Day planner? You get the idea.

I think clutches are great for formal events since they look very classy and don’t distract from your outfit. However, they’re so impractical for everyday use. How are you supposed to carry around a clutch like that?

I don’t really care for her clutch..but where can I get a coat like hers. I absolutely love it! I wonder if its from her LAMB line.

erica on

ditto on the coat! clutch is ugly, coat is fabulous!!

Yes! Finally I have an excuse to use the Burberry flowered clutch I bought last summer…. A steal at $100 dollars (If there’s any Canadians here-check out Holt Renfrew Last Call in Toronto or Winnipeg- dirt cheap stuff :) )

The LAMB clutches are perfect because they convert to a tote bag as well….so you have the option of carrying a lot or a little.

cmelanieb on

I wish I could carry a clutch, but inbetween my stuff and lugging bay stuff its a no go for me :(

KT from Cda on

Gotta agree, it is ugly. I have a small purse myself b/c I don’t carry a lot in it but I wouldn’t use a clutch. Well, atleast it is better then the giant luggage bag she carries around. I’m a mom too and I leave the diapers and such for the diaper bag instead.

Bravo, Elda! Jam me ty. :-)

Not Cool

That Jimmy Choo clutch is actually quite large. Naomi Watts carries one with her everywhere lately, covering up her baby belly with it. I think it’s too big to go with an evening dress, it’s more appropriate for work attire.

Jennifer on

I actually like clutches they can really make your outfit stand out!!!

alma on

I don’t care for clutches. It’s probably ok if you only carry a credit card and lipstick………but it’s not very practical.

rachel b. on

not my cup of tea!

hayley on

I love Gwen, and everything she wears looks great on her. But as for wearing a clutch during the day…I wouldn’t personally.

Megan on

I would never be able to fit my crap in there. I have to have a ginormous purse (not as big as Jessicas). I like the idea but its not for me

Your personal dedication to passing the solution around has been really helpful and have usually permitted workers just like me to get to their aims.
