Spring Trend Alert: Day Clutches

03/14/2007 at 03:00 PM ET

Ready to retire your overstuffed tote bag for something a little sleeker? Why not try a day clutch — still big enough to hold all your essentials but chic enough to take you from day-to-night. The latest issue of Stylewatch has some of the best day clutches around including Gwen’s signature L.A.M.B. clutch in saddle, $395, available at nordstrom.com. We are even giving one away in our Stylewatch Steals (contest ends March 15 at midnight!). Tell us: Would you wear a clutch during the day, instead of a shoulder bag?

I feel that usually clutches are more for formal occasions but they still can be used for day wear and casual places. I prefer a purse with a handle or strap since my other hands are too busy being occupied with my starbucks and cell. I still love this new trend and would definetly try it out.

i would NEVER be able to fit all my “junk” in that tiny thing! big bag stays for me :)

I can’t stand clutches

I like clutches for formal events, but they’re just not practical for a mother of 4. A shoulder strap is a must-have because I need my hands free for carrying babies!

i always use purses w/long straps so i can put them over my shoulders, i live in a big city man!!! i can’t take any chances!!

a clutch is not a very practical bag for a mother of two. i would use a day clutch for a lunch date without the kids, but not for everyday use.

I do like this bigger clutch, just no sure its appropriate for my lifestyle and all the crap I have to carry around.

Clutches are really annoying and I can’t stand carrying one. I’m afraid I’ll either forget it – or it will be stolen. Plus they’re waaaaay to tiny!

I guess it’s ok if you’re a big celebrity and have 8 bodyguards around you at all times! :o)

I don’t care for the clutch, but this is absolutely the prettiest photo I’ve ever seen of Gwen Stefani! I normally find her looking a bit much in photos, or not quite put together, but she’s lovely in this one. Now if only we could get her hair a bit closer to a color found in nature!

If I had a personal assistant to carry my junk to work for me everyday, then yea, I might carry a fun day clutch. But since I’m not a celebrity, I will have to stick to my big bag. Clutches are great for going out at night, and formal events, but aren’t practical for day. Where would I put my lunch? My magazine for the train ride? Change of shoes? Umbrella? Day planner? You get the idea.
