Get the Look: Straight Hair is Back!

03/13/2007 at 06:00 AM ET

Judging by the long, pin-straight hair that ruled the Oscar red carpet — Reese, Gwyneth and Nicole — we’re all going to be spending a lot of time juggling our hairdryers and round brushes. To speed up the process and avoid arm fatigue, use a lightweight hairdryer that works in half the time, like the T3 Bespoke Labs Featherweight Dryer, $200. To achieve Nicole Kidman’s sleek ‘do, stylist Chris McMillan applied Oscar Blandi Jasmine Oil Serum, $34, before and after blow-drying to fight frizz and add shine. And to ensure her hair was perfectly straight, McMillan finished it up with a FHI flatiron, $110. He called the final look “simple and elegant, with clean lines to accent the silhouette of her dress.” If you plan on using dryers and irons on a regular basis and want to maintain the health of your hair, be sure to use products that protect hair from heat and apply a deep conditioning treatment or mask on a weekly basis.

If you can’t afford the same products the stars use, here are a few that are hair and wallet friendly.

1. T-Studio Collection by Remington Active Ion, Tourmaline & Ceramic Flat Iron, $40 at

2. Conair ION Shine Double Ionic Turbo Styler, $33 at

3. John Frieda Reinforce Strengthening Triple Creme Masque, $5.00 at

She looks scarey! Her makeup and skin tone looks like crap.

Botox gone bad. ANd I never noticed the eyebrows till I read these posts. They give her a creepy look. I used to think she was beautiful. What happened?

Thank you Sonya, I thought I was the only one who found her WICKED SCARY LOOKING!!! There is something very wrong with the shaping/coloring of her eyebrows (they just don’t work with the shape/color of her face) and the choice of blonde in her hair doesn’t work either. She needs a make-over…to look pretty not scary!

The ONLY time Nicole Kidman was TRULY PRETTY was back in the early 1990’s in the film “Far and Away” before she became tainted by Hollywood. She had beautiful strawberry blonde hair, a nice roundness to her face, and her eyebrows were natural…..since then she’s just become progressively SCARIER LOOKING!!! I can see why she played the part of a witch in “Bewitched”……AAAHHHH!!!!!!

Please, no offense to those who find her “beautiful”!?!?!?
I just don’t see it at all!!

So many hairstyles have came in and out: the afro, crimped hair, even curly, but never straight. But nicloe does look a little scary- her eyes look bloodshot.

I just saw todays photo of Nicole. She is frightening. Why has she done this to herself. A once gorgeous woman has turned herself into a hideous monster that if scary to look at. ..botox….lip injections….how can a doctor do this…aren’t doctors supposed to first and foremost.”DO NO HARM”…Look what they have done to this woman..she needs help with her self image….stat.

I think Nicole Kidman is stunning. I love her straight hair, and I don’t think it ever really went out of style, but for a while, everyone was doing their hair with a tousled, just-got-back-from-the-beach look.

OMG!!! Her eyebrows are just shouting “look at me, im monsterous!!!” She needs help, fast!!! Her hair is fine but her eyebrows are just, well, i dont even know the right words to describe something so needy of attention!!! Im only 13, shouldnt she be my role model? Well, i think she is the role model of that monster that used to live under my bed!!! OMG!!!

Straight hair sucks! It’s so plain. 1980s big hair is better than that.
