Get the Look: Straight Hair is Back!

03/13/2007 at 06:00 AM ET

Judging by the long, pin-straight hair that ruled the Oscar red carpet — Reese, Gwyneth and Nicole — we’re all going to be spending a lot of time juggling our hairdryers and round brushes. To speed up the process and avoid arm fatigue, use a lightweight hairdryer that works in half the time, like the T3 Bespoke Labs Featherweight Dryer, $200. To achieve Nicole Kidman’s sleek ‘do, stylist Chris McMillan applied Oscar Blandi Jasmine Oil Serum, $34, before and after blow-drying to fight frizz and add shine. And to ensure her hair was perfectly straight, McMillan finished it up with a FHI flatiron, $110. He called the final look “simple and elegant, with clean lines to accent the silhouette of her dress.” If you plan on using dryers and irons on a regular basis and want to maintain the health of your hair, be sure to use products that protect hair from heat and apply a deep conditioning treatment or mask on a weekly basis.

If you can’t afford the same products the stars use, here are a few that are hair and wallet friendly.

1. T-Studio Collection by Remington Active Ion, Tourmaline & Ceramic Flat Iron, $40 at ulta.com

2. Conair ION Shine Double Ionic Turbo Styler, $33 at conair-store.com

3. John Frieda Reinforce Strengthening Triple Creme Masque, $5.00 at ulta.com

When did straight hair ever go out of style? Hasn’t she had straight hair for like the last couple of years now, or maybe even longer? What the hell is wrong with these people? Straight hair, hmmm I straighten my hair everday, so have I been out style? Can someone please answer my questions, because I am confused. I’ll stop writing now!!!

She looks fab!

I love her hair! I agree with everyone else that straight hair is not something that really went out of style….but I’m glad it is “back” nonetheless. I have to use an iron to straighten my hair as well, and I must recommend anything Jon Freida – all products that I have used have been amazing!! But has anyone seen the “beach blonde” sea salt leave-in conditioner lately??? I have been looking everywhere for it – great for summer!!

Nicole is classy and she has style.

yes her eye brows bother me to dark….I like straight hair but I like the loose curls too.

What I want to know is when frizzy, uncontrollable, fly-away will be “in”? Give us girls with near impossible hair a chance to look stylish too! ;-)

I have one of the T-Studio flatirons, and it is very high quality. It works just as well as a professional Paul Mitchell flatiron (about $130) that I also use. I was quite impressed. And yes, where have some of you been? Loose, wavy bedhead-type hair has been the “in” style for the past couple years. Think of Sarah Jessica Parker and Jessica Simpson. Straightening one’s hair doesn’t have to be terribly damaging. You really need a quality ceramic or tourmaline flat iron – NOT something cheap from a discount store, because those will fry your hair. A quality iron will seal your cuticle, which will protect your hair from humidity and make it sleek and shiny. Higher-quality irons are made with higher quality metals that are less damaging to the hair, also.
Nicole’s eyebrows are probably darkened because she’s so fair-skinned. Her eyebrows are naturally a very light shade, and makeup artists most likely darkened them so they’d show up in photos and on camera.

YAY! I have a flat-iron to straighten out my hair. Luv it! All straight here is goregous and womanly in my book.

astoreri or whatever, the reason nicole looks like that is because her hair is died and her eyebrows ARE the natural color of her hair, the color they should be which IS reddish auburn or strawberry blonde, whatever you prefer to call it. like the color she had her hair in moulin rouge, for instance.
