Becki is my daughter and is naturally small- she is 5’2″ as am I. She purchased that dress at a vintage store in New York City two years ago because she loves the styling of Diane von Furstenberg, and vintage clothing in general. Her donated dress is to be sold at a charity auction to raise money for Working Wardrobes, and I encourage everyone to take a few moments to check out their website and see what wonderful things they are doing to help women and men in crisis feel good about themselves as they reenter the workforce. It’s not just about clothing, but interview skills, hair and makeup, and career development. When you are looking for a job, especially after being in crisis, you should not be questioning whether you look presentable. Job interviews are tough enough. Working Wardrobes helps women and men level the playing field.
I encourage everyone participating in or reading this blog to channel their energy is a positive, productive way.

If you guys would actually take the time to go to workingwardrobes.com you would see that they are need of size 0 clothing and other petite sizes. So obviously someone will appreciate this girls nice gesture. And I’m sure their will be more than 1 person waiting in line.

I totally agree with you Rose.. It is the thought that counts and giving to charity is a wonderful thing to do, especially for people in the entertainment business or anyone that can actually afford it. I just think posting that the dress was a size o was a bit much, and I also thought that in all practicality there are not that many people out there that are size 0′s, but for everyone that is a size 0.. congrats!

There’s nothing wrong with being a size 0 if you’re not unhealthy. Alot of the girls/young women who actually wear “trendy” dresses like the one above are super-small. *rolls eyes*

If you actually take the time to go to workingwardrobes.org, you will see that they are in in of size 0 and petite clothing, so obviously someone will be able to use the dress that was donated.

Some of these comments make it sound like she’s donating the dress to Goodwill. I may be wrong, but it sounds like the charity is auctioning the dress off for a normal DVF price and keeping the money from the auction to help working women, which is wonderful. It’s great that people, celebrities and non, are generous and help people that haven’t been so lucky… no matter what size any of the people involved are!

I’m looking at the photo of this girl and she does not look mel-nourish or gaunt so maybe she is a healthy size 0. Some are. A lot of people are not 0′s or under a size 10 and a lot of stars are around a zero so maybe instead of donating clothes maybe donate money instead. Possibly the thing that has caused all of you bloggers to get upset is the way it was worded by the person who wrote this artical. When they wrote “Of course it was a size 0″, that got my hackles up considering I myself have struggled with my weight all my life. That was an insentive for girls wanting to be pin thin to try even harder. Mentioning the size of the dress should not of been mentioned at all. Not impressed People’s mag.

It’s so hard to remember sometimes that we’re ALL in the same boat — beating ourselves up or trying to be confident with what we have, but struggling against all the different pressures to be young, thin, fashionable, enterprising, etc. Some people think, “I would kill to have that problem!” (i.e. to be too skinny), but we just have to remember that we’re ALL struggling in some ways.

But anyhow, I don’t think elle was trying to be snarky. Just silly.

It’s very sweet of the actresses to donate their dresses to a great cause. Maybe next time they will consider buying extras in more sizes to donate since the average woman is about size 10-14.

So what if it’s a size 0? I know lots of women who are a size 0, and they are just built that way, as in genetics. My mom is genetically a size 10, I’m genetically a size 2/4. I wish people would stop picking on the smaller gals, doesn’t anyone ever think we can be unhappy with our bodies too?

In your post, you make it sound horrible for size 0 women to donate their clothing to charity, like we’re stupid or something (I myself have always been a size 0). There are plenty of women, in need or not, who are that size. You needn’t be so sarcastic. The point here is that Becki donated to charity. Who cares what size she is? Her donation will help *someone* and that is what counts.

You can get the same dress from JC Penny’s online store ANY SIZE and then we all can get along. Who cares if the girl is a size 0. Good for her. I will look for a size 12 that will fit over my HUGE boobs! YEAH!

Dear J,

She says she wore that dress to her “Ugly Betty” screen test. At that point she wasn’t some well-known actress who was receiving free clothes. She was just some hopeful actress on an audition! It was a dress she surely bought on her own. Whatever the case may be, it is wonderful whenever celebrities get involved with charities because it always brings attention to the cause.

Why are women so “catty”? I am sure that Alice and Heather both did not mean anything by what they said about thin women. I am not a thin woman. I struggle with my weight everyday probably the same way Alice and Heather struggle with their weight.
