Courtney Love's Fashion Faux Pas

02/28/2007 at 01:00 PM ET

When we read in Women’s Wear Daily that Courtney Love had worn a copy of a Chanel Couture dress to Paris Hilton‘s recent birthday party last week, we couldn’t believe our eyes. The industry newspaper reported that the real, one-of-kind, miniscule dress was in Paris, and that Courtney’s — right down to the bogus fingerless gloves — was a complete fashion fake. Would Courtney purposely risk drawing the ire of Lagerfeld? According to her publicist, Alan Nierob, the answer is no. He tells us that Courtney was sent a bunch of dresses from various sources to wear during Oscar weekend. Unbeknownst to her, someone had included the imitation frock amongst the options. She saw the classy mini (sans label) and decided to wear it. The identity of the copycat dress lender is unknown but according to Nierob, Courtney is sorry that Karl is upset and says she would not have worn the dress had she known that it was a knock-off.

Poor thing. She just doesn’t get it.

What is this anyway — some school marm’s take on the ol’ french maid costume ? It’s an idiotic dress anyway. I have a soft spot for Courtney, and this is one time when she’d have made a better choice by letting her boobs hang out of something else, about anything else !

Is is just me or is that one of the ugliest dresses you have ever seen? Also, though I used to adore CL (this was in the early 90s) I now think she looks like Barbara Walters. Girl needs to let up on the surgery.

Jenn on

I’m not entirely sure why anyone would *want* to wear that dress…

That’s Courtney Love? She’s starting to look like Joan Rivers! The dress is hideous, both the designer and the knockoff versions.

My “favorite part of the outfit is the gloves. They make such a statement. The dress is VERY ugly.
I diodn’t recgonize her when I first saw the picture. I thought that she was a victim of botched plastic surgery….

Oh man…why this woman doesnt hire a stylist? She can’t afford it or she still is suffering from the delusion that she can dress herself?

She looks like Britney Spears! Seriously, take a close look . . . well, Britney Spears on a relatively good day pre-pregnancy.

I can’t help but think that maybe this is the only way she can think of to make herself noticed and put into print.
I have to agree with the ladies who dilike this outfit… YUCK!

a maids outfit almost and Love has got to change.

Stop going to fashion shows Courtney. And stop being a slave to designers. Get off the train before it’s too late. Lagerfield obviously has issues. The original and the imitation dresses both look like remnants of depression era servants’ (slaves) costume. Perhaps men saw this dress on their mistresses and jumped out the window and it had nothing to do with the stock crash after all. I imagine Anne Frank in this dress due to the dark circles around the model’s eyes reminiscent of long-suffering malnutrition. I suppose this costume is a statement that the war is alive and well (and ill). What really sparked the fire at Paris’ party was likely that fat-boy-oil-pig must have commented on the dress.

This looks like a “French Maid” Halloween Costume gone wrong.

Cypress on

Looks like a cheap.. very cheap maid’s halloween costume on either lady. UGH!

I think this dress flatters her so much!!! After seeing this picture, I want to go and buy that dress immediately!! She has an eye for fashion!!

What does this woman do? Is there a reason she is famous? I can’t figure it out.

I dislike the dress, but regardless, she should have been able to tell. The knockoff (like all knockoffs) is missing the designer’s keen attention to detail, and next to real Chanel (even bad Chanel) it just looks cheap and ridiculous. I don’t like were he was going, but KL made the real dress spot on with dimensions and details, and that’s something to be admired!

okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay…
i feel the drop off the wagon coming…
:D

Wow. Looks like her last face lift didn’t turn out so well..
And being able to tell real designer clothing to fakes- something to be admired? – ha! It never ceases to amaze me the shallowness and straight up ignorance some people have. But I’m not trying to start up any drama, because I already feel sorry for people like that who truly have no appreciation (or consideration) for real life.. of which designer clothes and purses are not a part of!!

beth on

Doesn’t look like her last face lift turned out too well.

-And being able to tell the difference between designer clothing and fakes something to be admired? Ha! The shallowness and straight up ignorance of some people who comment here never cease to amaze me. I honestly feel sorry for people who think life is all about designer clothes, shoes, bags, and who has more money .. I only wish for you that you learn what life is really about, and maybe make a contribution to society, maybe donate that $1500 to a charity instead of buying that purse..

Either way, designer or knock-off, both dresses are very ugly and tacky looking. At least this time Courtney Love has covered herself up…too bad it’s in this icky looking dress.

I think the dress could have been cute if those featherly looking things sticking up on the collar, at the bottom of the dress, and around the bow weren’t there….that is just so tacky, Chanel or not, that is just ugly. The fingerless gloves doesn’t do the dress any justice…why are the fingerless gloves a trend? Those are also tacky looking.

kyla on

Courtney looks beautiful, as always

Andie on

I don’t care for the dress so much, But I do think Courtney wears it really well. It looks nice on her
Oh and Night?

-what does this woman do? Why is she famous anyways?

She only put out one of the best selling c.d’s in the early 90′s, and she is still making great music today.
