Today the Tyra Banks Show was devoted Tyra’s PEOPLE magazine cover story from a couple of week’s back (You Call This Fat?). That story received an amazing response and inspired Tyra to launch her So What?! campaign to help empower women everywhere to feel good about their bodies. In this video clip, she encourages three audience members (all donning the same red leotard that Tyra wore on our cover) to say “So What?” to their own weight-related issues. What did you think of Tyra’s Show today? What do you want to say “So what?” to?

I think what Tyra does for women is fantastic. I completely disagree with the previous post about her low self-esteem. But whether she does or does not have low self esteem isn’t the issue: the issue is that she is putting a subject that many would still consider “taboo” out in the public eye and taking a stand for what she (and quite frankly all of us should) believe in. It disgusts me the number of weight loss pills and diets that come out. Our preoccupation with the ideal figure is unacceptable. This attitude must change! It is interesting to think about how strongly women would object if asked to wear a corset (I assume many would consider that hideous practice of the Victorian era to be disgusting) yet the same women are willing to skip meals (or starve themselves), take pills, and pour scads of money into an industry that wishes to acheive the same results, a thin waistline. We’ve traded in one disgusting idea for another. In conclusion, I applaud Tyra’s actions and strongly encourage all others to speak out for the cause!

Tyra used to be the size of a runway model, now that she earned her money and was able to leave the runway she decided she is going to enjoy herself and not diet as strictly. For that she is earning a lot of slack for. Yes, she tells young women that inorder to be a model they have to be in model shape; it’s not hypocritical it’s true. She does not endorse, or appears to have endorsed, any eating disorders. Tyra is great for showing that just because you are not runway material doesn’t mean you can’t rock a swimsuit. All, the women in that suit look great, yes even the 195lb. women. Actually I might start looking for that suit for myself! I have so many friends that won’t wear a swimsuit (hence, they don’t go to the beach or pool) because they are ashamed of their bodies, and they have no reason to be ashamed, they are just not size 2. Thanks Tyra for helping give confidence to the non sample sized women around!

I watched tyra’s show on Monday 02/26/07 and she talked about her show america’s top model and how she does not encourage skinny models. But have any of you watched that show there are only stick thin girls that make it to the finals and win. I did not see any thick girls come out of this show yet.

I love Tyra but I can’t help notice the irony in that she’s been targeted by an industry she was os heavily involved in, one that makes women they have to attain unrealtic body image goals. You can’t play both sides. If you aren’t part of the solution you are part of the problem. I adore Tyra & always have. She is beautiful, intelligent & talented. But let’s face it, not too long ago she was a huge part of the industry that makes us all feel fat looking the way she does now.

I think your show is horrible, especially the episode when you made it seem like you were the milestone to african american females. You are the last person who should be considered a role model for a animal, especially not a human being. Your show this morning where you featured american idol katherine mcphee, you were caressing her breast. You should have stuck to what you know best. Being an airheaded, bigheaded wanna be model.
