Oscar Night Style: Who Did You Love On The Red Carpet?

02/25/2007 at 11:16 PM ET

After months of speculating and anticipating, the Oscar nominees and presenters finally floated down the red carpet in all their glory. Our heads are still spinning over all the looks. Jennifer Lopez was one of the first to arrive and set the bar high in her elegant silk Marchesa gown. Many other lovelies in pale shades followed, including Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet and Gwyneth Paltrow. Cate Blanchett mixed it up with dark tulle over a shimmering sliver Armani Prive gown. On the other side of the color spectrum, Nicole Kidman stood out in her dramatic Balenciaga column gown and Reese Witherspoon showed off some curves in a deep Nina Ricci gown. We’re still digesting it all… and of course, debating about who got it right and who got it wrong. Tell us: What do you think of the Oscars red carpet? Whose dress do you love — or hate? Vote on your favorite by clicking here!

i am a little bored with penelope cruz. Didnt charlize theron already do that look? almost with the same gown!
and nicole kidman copied charlize as well with the whole big bow thing… not one of her better choices though the red is simply stunning on her

I loved Reese, Nicole, Penelope, Cate, Kate, JLo, Helen, Naomi, and Gwyneth!

Jennifer Hudson looked lovely after she removed her astronaut jacket.

Beyonce’s hair/makeup was beautiful but the dress was just OK.

Emily Blunt’s dress was beautiful but everything else about her was boring, same with Jodie Foster.

I thought Meryl Streep was one of the worst dressed. I thought she would have put more effort into looking awesome considering her character in the Devil wears Prada.

I probably forgot about some people, but those were just my thoughts!

Loved Gwyneth (great colour), Emily (simply shimmering) & Kirsten (intricate details)!

I LOVED Reese, Emily Blunt (who knew she was so gorgeous?_, Cate Blanchett, Jessica Biel and Helen Mirren (the woman could wear a trash bag and still look divine, IMO). But there were definitely a few misses… I thought J.Lo looked pregnant, Eva Green was doing a bad Angelina circa Billy Bob impression and Jennifer Hudson was just a big letdown (though her competition with Beyonce for the title of top diva was the highlight of the show).

Overall, I was impressed by the gowns (though a touch disappointed that they were a bit on the boring side) and happy with the big winners.

I wrote a full post on my picks for best and worst dressed at my blog Faking Good Breeding, which you can check out here:

Reese was the best dressed! All the other dresses bored me! Who knew divorcing Ryan, she would look so good!

Nicole Kidman just stole the show in that dress.

Just freakin stunning.

I’m not a big fan of Versace, but I have to say, Penelope Cruz looked amazing! It was no surprise that Nicole chose Balenciaga, and it was a risque number but I think she pulled it off. I wasn’t amazed by anyone though…Jennifer Hudson looked great, as always (how can you not when Andre himself is your stylist). I didn’t like Beyonce’s dress at all (I think she has the worst sense of fashion), J.Lo always looks the same (a little too flashy for me) – but this Marchesa gown was much better than the weird one she chose for the Golden Globes. Reese Whiterspoon was lovely in Nina Ricci. I didn’t like Cameron Diaz’s Valentino gown. Very stiff. It’s the collar that was weird. I think the one she picked for the Golden Globes would have been more suited for this occasion. Also, I think she looks great as a natural blonde or a dark brunette, but the brownish color she debuted tonight isn’t flaterring. Overall, nothing made me scream in horror but nothing made me dream either…
I put together a little slide of the red carpet action on my blog, http://www.blancheneigeny.blogspot.com

I thought Cate Blanchett looked completely amazing. Her dress was so bold and different to all the others – she didn’t have to compete with the other actresses in their feathery, fish-tailed dresses. Cate was, to put in one word, stunning!

(I should probably mention that I’m an Aussie so I might be a wee bit biased here!)

Nicole Kidman just blew me away in that red Balenciaga dress. She is the epitome of beauty and elegance. This is what an actress should look like at the year most prestiguous award show. Nicole was just stunning and she always does it right on the red carpet. She is one of few actresses that looks good in anything.

The red dress was the perfect choice for Nicole. She definitely stand out on the red carpet because not a lot of actresses wore red! And I just love the vibrant red lipstick color of the dress. The cut was perfect, it wasn’t long or too short and it hugs Nicole in all the right places.

The big bow tie behind the back of the dress was a perfect touch. Bows seemed to be the big trend at this year Annual Academy Awards. Overall, Nicole Kidman was perfect. She really is a true style icon, a classic movie star with glamour and timeless beauty.

Reese- Absolutely goregous and excellent dress!

J.L.- Had the old-fashioned and vintage Hollywood dress and hair going on. Not the nicest that I have seen on her.

P. Cruz.- oh, Dear! Her dress is screaming for help and it is too fluffy and can she even breathe in that dress? A little too much.

C. Blanchett- Chose a great designer Armani but the dress just does not seem like the right shade for the actress.
