Patricia Field Puts Her Cheapest Foot Forward

02/22/2007 at 03:28 PM ET

The stylist best known for making pricey Manolo Blahniks, Christian Louboutins and Jimmy Choos mainstream on Sex and the City told us a shocker that would have Carrie Bradshaw tripping all over herself. Patricia Field, an Oscar nominee for Best Costume Design for The Devil Wears Prada, will be walking the Academy’s red carpet in budget footwear. “I’m going to be wearing a pair of Payless shoes,” says Field, who created a line of footwear for the brand. “Oh, they’re gorgeous. They’re metallic snake in a couple of different colors, gold and silver.” Cheap really is chic!

shoes are shoes and as long as they fit right (comfort/style)…it shouldn’t matter and the price stands for a price.

Payless is coming up in the shoe market, becoming known for their trendy styles. I bought a pair of absolutely adorable boots there, and I always get a lot of compliments on them. And they are so comfortable! Who knows that they are Payless?

Hmmm, I don’t spend much time smelling my shoes, so it’s not likely the cheap smell would bother me. If they’re cute and comfortable, sure, I’d buy a pair.

I didn’t read the article. Nice pic of Lindsay Lohan in ten years, though!

Love Payless. I bought an adorable pair of green flats there before, and more recently, a pair of Airwalk sneakers. They look the same as Converse but came with a $30 price tag instead.

I LOVE that pat fields does this…

Upscale and Downlow… super girlfriend! I mean, payless who cares, and it’s something I can afford! woohooo

She’s been designing their commercials for a while now too.

I love Payless! Especially when they have their BOGO sale. Nothing like getting 2 pair of shoes for $30! I hate to spend a lot of money on shoes that won’t be in style for more than one season. This also lets me have a much better shoe wardrobe.

Rita- you are too funny. Come to think of it, my clothes don’t fight either in the closet and they not only share space with each other but my boyfriend’s clothes, too!!

J- you do come off sounding snobish, wheather you intended to or not.

Mary- great you buy Manolos, too bad you have to look inside the shoe to see the label and at that poinht who cares you spent $500+ on a pair of darn shoes. They break like any other pair.

As for me- my cloest houses shoes in every price range and deisgner/store and they all smell… like feet…

Happy Friday everyone!!

some of you people are idiots. i don’t go smelling shoes, nor do my feet smell. the actual STORE has an odor to it when you pass by! i did NOT intend to come off snobby. reread my post. it’s merely an opinion like everyone else’s. i work VERY hard at two jobs to buy myself nice things. i choose not to shop at payless. if you do that’s fine. i care about ME and what I wear–not YOU. i don’t judge others on what they can or can’t afford! so chill already!!!

j,
if you’re working two jobs to buy stuff, maybe you can’t afford more expensive things. I am not saying not to buy what you want, but hopefully some of the money you have to stay away from “stinky” Payless is going to a house fund or college fund, some kind of savings. And yes calling calling those shoes “GROSS” is an insult to those who buy them. You did put them down. That is why people got angry. You could have said, I prefer not to shop there without calling them gross.

I am 30. In my early 20′s I had over 10 grand in college loans debt. I could have put off paying it, but I didn’t. Even if that meant not spending a lot on other things. I paid it off and immediately started saving for a house.
I just bought my own home. I don’t mean to pat myself on the back, but I had to really save and NOT buy or do everything I wanted to do. The day of my closing I was carrying a 5 dollar purse that had a tear at the handle!
I laughed to my husband about it, but said, “Look what I’m carrying, That’s how I saved for a house.” But what was more important what was in my bag…keys to my home. Now I bought a few Dooney and Bourke bags, knowing full well that they are a little expensive. But I have my home!!
I am one of those people who actually feel “guilty” for buying pricey stuff.
