I love the ‘Old Hollywood” glamour. Dark red lips and matte skin. What I want to know is where do they find the dark red lipsticks now. I would buy them if I could find them. The department store brands fall short of the dark red color. I don’t bother with the department store lipsticks any longer. I have a golden-bronze skintone.

I watch the TNT channel and all of the old movies. Perfection was the name of the game then.

They say there is a red lipstick for everyone. You have to find your hue. I much prefer red lipstick to the black lipstick trend from the ‘Goth” era.

I think the red lipstick is not working for all of them, maybe just a little on kate winslet, but the others its looks like a 1.00$ cheap lipstick.

Surprisingly, the only one I think the red suits is AShley Olsen. Gwen really needs to invest in a tube of mascara, she looks completely washed out. And I think Kate’s red is too deep, she could definitely pull off a lighter red. I think it’s beautiful, but not not appropriate for every day wear. I don’t know about anyone else, but rarely do I have the occasion to wear a color like that…

I don’t particularly like this bright red lipstick. I don’t think the celebrities above (Kate, Ashley, and Gwyneth) look great in it because they have a light complexion. I think a more neutral color would look better on them. The vibrant color seems to make them look even paler. If it was a softer red, I think that it could look much better on them. I like Kate Winslet’s style, but this color is NOT suited for her I don’t think.

I agree with Sarah. I am a Latina with light olive skin and this dark red lipstick looks pretty good on me.
Oh all of them Olsen looks best since she has yellow undertones. And Gwenyth’s is way too matte!!

Lighter complexion girls can still pull of red, if it’s not as dark. Something like the shade Christina Aguillera wears.

I don’t like the deep red lipstick thing because it makes everyone look pale. Even if you are tanned, it would make you look pale!!!!!

Do not try if you can’t pull it off! And honestly, other than Kate Winslet, I don’t know who can…It’s really not a trend made for the “average” person. They’d all look very different walking around K-Mart with this make-up on. If you still wanna go for it, I’d recommend Chanel lipstick :) It’s fabulous.

Such a classic look, but I agree with softening the color with a lighter gloss. Fair skinned ladies absolutely CAN pull this look off – very classy.

MAKE UP….THE LESS THE BETTER! I THINK THEY CAN PULL IT OFF THOUGH (THEY ARE CELEBRITIES)…BUT I WOULD NEVER BE SEEN WEARING THIS DARK HARSH COLOR ON MY LIPS…UNLESS IM GOING TO A CUSTOME PARTY!

Kate's was too dark and too thick, but I like it on Gwyneth and Ashley. A dark red lip is very sophisticated and grown-up looking. I think it looks best if you soften it a bit with a lighter gloss. I'm very pale and my favorite product to use to get a bright, crimson lip is Stila's Lip Rouge in Pucker.
