Companies gift celebrities with products because that helps them sell at exponentially higher rates - even if people don't want to admit it. The companies aren't giving the items out of the goodness of their hearts; instead, they're gifting for the practically free advertising. With that in mind, I don't begrudge the celebrities. Verizon most likely gave away the phones in hopes that the celebrities will be photographed using the phone. Then people will see those pictures, and some of them will want to buy the phone.
