Buh-Bye Black: It's All About Red Nails Like Ashlee's

02/02/2007 at 06:00 AM ET

It looks like trend-setting celeb fingertips are moving on. Stars from Ashlee Simpson to Hilary Duff to Nicole Richie are trading their Goth-inspired black nail polish for classic candy-apple red. Still a bold statement, but a lot easier to swallow for most of us. And it only gets lighter from here — we hear that white polish is making a big comeback too, just in time for the mod trend for spring. Tell us: Will you wear red? Are you ready to give up black polish?

Want to try a new red? Check out Essie Red Label, $7, or ” target=”_blank”>Barielle Driven, $8. Ready for white? We love Nars Edelweiss, $15.

Like a lot of other posters here, I have been wearing red this entire Winter season. I have different variations of red, and they look great on my short nails.

I was never in to the black nail color. Way too trendy for me. I’m not the type of person to wear something just because everyone else is.

Seriously!!? When DID red go out of style?? I thought that black was kind of gross….it looks like when you put black olives on your fingers when you were a kid!

I agree with Jamie, a whole new Ashlee!! Maybe she should change her name and then she’ll be a whole new person!!

try white — its interesting and makes you look tan.

Holy moly, I didn’t know red nail polish was the “in” color on the nails….? I thought red has always been around? (Note the sarcasm) How about this…. we’re not all robots, we don’t all copy the celebs, some of us do what we want whether it’s “in” or not. I can give a rats crap if Ashlee is wearing it or not. I’ll wear red or black any time I feel like it, and if it’s Summer, oh lordy, give me a citation for red nail polish when I should be wearing green, LOL. I have always worn the color red, and I love the darker reds with my long nails.

Linds… the black olives comment was funny! I was always kinda afraid of the black polish thing. I’m from south Louisiana and people around here thought it was weird. But I’m always into red… every shade of red.

I think you shouldn’t follow the media! What’z hot one minute, will be cold the next. When it comes to my nails,
I think about what I’m going to wear, and will it go, but that’s all. What would the world be like with out variety?
If you think it looks nice, who cares what the next person says about it. By the way, Ashlee’s nails look nice on her.

YES!!! Red is nicer than Black.

I love both nail colors: red and black, but I found dark blue nail polish (remember Emily Blunt from ‘The devil wears prada’?) and it looks REAALLYYY good. Don’t be afraid to find something new, girls ;]

black was fine for fall or winter, but now that spring is well on its way, red is the way to go. my favourite red shade is *suprisingly* New York Colour “nail glossies #223”. its super cheap, which i love, but it also comes out super smooth and without streaks.
